This may be an off the wall question but what happens to the trans fluid level when you start the car, does it go down from the pump sucking the fluid or does it continually rise from the heat? The reason why I ask is because I am trying to determine if I have too much fluid in the trans or not enough. Before it is running the level is just below the add marks but I cannot seem to get a good indication while it is running.

The fluid should be in the cross hatch area when the fluid is hot. When cold and not running the fluid maybe alittle high. The torque converter will drain back into the pan some when sitting. When you start it cold it will suck it back up and should be alittle low on the stick untill the fluid is warm.Fluid expands when hot.

How much did you put in? If it's below add not running you need more for sure.

as stated above the level changes when hot and running, but generally the level should be somewhat close to when the engine is off. i've checked mine both ways (cold/off) just to get an indication of diff. levels and it was pretty close.
