Wasn't he the one that did a LOT of brand-recognition/sponsorship? Like the picture of him smiling next to a bottle of Gatorade?

Don't remember that? Know he was all over shirts, clothing, stickers, posters. I do remember a few months after it happened in "Thrashin" magazine there was this weird couple page story he wrote based loosely on events in his life.

I remember him. Man, those were the days......Skatin', gettin' hassled by the fuzz for skatin', going to the hospital for falling down skatin'....... It was still fun. I don't remember the whole murder deal though. Was he guilty?

You guys should definitely check out that Dogtown Z-Boys flick too. It was waay kewl.

Yeah, he killed his girlfriend's friend.......burried her in the desert.

Yeah, that's where my screen name came from. Police knew us all too well.........they called us dirt rock kids.

Remember "the search for animal chin"??? Loved that caddy ;)

Wasn't that a Powell Peralta video?

I think thats part of the reason I still hate cops. I always told them that there are real criminals out there, maybe they should stop being pu$$ies and find them instead of hassling me for riding a skate board. I remember stealing "No Skateboarding" signs from the mall. They were put up right after my buddy fell off his board and it went through a glass door at the mall.

Nowadays you got these wanna be skaters with their roller blades. I hate roller bladers. Its the gayest thing next to figure skaters. At least figure skating is harder. Like who couldn't do tricks when the DAMN WHEELS ARE STUCK TO YOUR FEET!!! Try hanging onto your board 6' in the air and landing it. It makes me so mad when I watch the x games and they actually recognize these people as athletes. Hello?! Any kid in america can be rollerblading in like 5 minutes, but they will fall right off a skateboard, probably for awhile, since it requires balance, skill, and dexterity.

I remember the guy who worked at the local skate shop used to make fun of rollerbladers, calling them "bucket heads", because they always wore helmets. Real skaters don't need helmets. Hell yeah, you get hurt. Its part of the sport. Sissy roller bladers.....

We called em Fruit Booters :p

Have to admit I have tried it and it aint as easy as it looks......

Yeah, the powell and peralta video. They re-released that too.

The cops loved to get us as a group for treaspassing.........take all our boards, and make us walk behind the car to the police station, where they would call our parents to come and get us.

I was a skate punk in the 80's and still have my first Caballero board..... why I don't know... I haven't skated in nearly 10 years.

.... and an original Hunt for Animal Chin poster in decent condition. Maybe I should Ebay it :).

Gator was a legend..... but Tony Hawk is still the man!

I still have a Caballero poster at my moms house. Those skate videos have got to be the most dangerous things ever! How many times did you watch one then immediately go out and try the moves? Then bust your ass on the pavement? I think skaters are the most coordinated bunch of athletes, and for the most part, respectful. You don't see alot of them getting busted for drugs, rape, gun fighting, etc.

This has got me thinking of the ramps we had. I had a quarter pipe that we moved around in my cul-de-sac, my buddy had a nice half pipe, another buddy had the death trap, a 3 foot wide half pipe, with a brick wall on one side and a 6 foot drop on the other. I never rode it, it was ricketty and narrow. My buddy who owned it is sponsored now, he was awesome. He lacked that self preservation gene, so he wasn't scared to try anything. I was a little more reserved, so I was more careful.

I had a couple other ramps, launch ramps, we used those the most. One of my favorite things was to set up my 3 foot ramp on some blocks so it was super steep, then get some stupid air and land in a giant pile of leaves in the fall. I wish I could still skate, I quit when I got a license. Cars were more fun. But I remember when all I could think about was saving $50 to get a new deck, those were the days.

I still have my Z-Flex board with gull wing trucks and Kryptonics wheels in the garage. My kids are now using it. :)

it was "boneite"...i used to love the white boneite,it was harder and slicker than the black...it was more like a plastic where the the black was like cardboard...

i was sponsored by the local shop in high school(late 80's)i got most of my crap for free and anything else at cost.good thing too,cuz i used to break some sh!t.

i still have a tony hawk out in the garage, indy's and some kinda powell wheels...i can still ride too, after all this time...i've stayed with snowboarding(bought my first board from the shop when i was sponsored)so it's not like i don't get some kind of practice...

we used to watch those bones brigade videos religiously :D .lotsa times we'd turn down the volume and crank up the misfits or suicidal:cool:

back when skating was not exactly socially accepted...
