Someone is telling me that they have seen in print that there was a 400 horsepower option for the Boss 302, consisting of at least dual quads or the Autolite inline? I don't ever remember seeing a Boss 302 with quads from the factory and authenticating paperwork. I have seen the Autolite inline but never with any proof that it came from the factory that way?

On the Boss 302? I don't see anything on it.
Did they specifically say 302? The '67 GT500 had a 428 with 2 four barrels. A few had 427's with a cool Weber setup.

According to the Holley Performance catalogue, the Boss 302 came equipped (from the factory) with a single Holley 780cfm, List number 0-4653. The Ford part number D0ZF-9510-ZA is also engraved on the air horn. If dual quads was truly an option, I would check the carb part numbers and cross reference to a Ford manual for verification. I highly doubt that dual quads was an option for a Boss 302. Not that it couldn't exist, but I use to be a Smog Check Referee (in CA) and have not seen that or an option sheet for it. Additionally, one of the SoCal referees used to belong to the Shelby Cobra club and he too has not heard of that option.

I never saw a 400 HP option.
In the late 60s all the engines were underrated so that at least insurance might be available.
In 70 I went to buy a 69, 440 Cuda, right up until I checked with the inurance guy. One years insurance was more then the cost of the car.

Dual 4 barrels was probably just a part number (and available from Ford) to be legit for Trans/Am racing. Not as a street legal option.

Being a vintage Mustang guy myself, I think it was a trans-am only part, but I have seen cars with them. Check www.vintage-mustang.com and as for gsjohnson. He has one.

Nice car. I always like that blue.

I had a 69 428 SCJ for a while. I can really kick myself over letting that one go. Had the Trac Pack Option, and all original. Was the first car I owned that'd really light the tires in third. Lots of fun until I figured out it had a blown headgasket. I bought it *right* because it was running hot. Boy, was that a lession well learned, LOL. Dissasemble car, replace gaskets, reassembly is the reverse of the above. I didn't know about having to put the engine to yank the heads, so wound up taking everything apart, until I figured the engine had to come out.

There was a pic in one of the Mags showing Boyington or Lil John getting a 69 for there son, it was a ringer for my old car. I'd filled in the trunk where the lettering was, and started fixing some sheet metal, and sold it before finishing it. And in the pic looked like it was the last time I'd seen it even though it was years past.

Bruce,

I know what you mean. I sold my 69 Vert about 4 months ago and I miss having an old classic. Right now, I know of a 428 SCJ that is a great deal, but I just don't have the cash to jump on it yet.

nope. Only a Holley 780 4 barrel from the factory. 290 hp .. Even if you *did* plop on some sort of dealer daul carb setup do you rea;;y think that you are gonna pick up 110 hp? no. The 780 cfm was too big for a 302 cubic inch engine as it was..

I've seen both single and dual inline 4V setup's but they were never offered for production.

Kinda like a stage 2 455.
