I'm evaluating options for budget intercooler upgrades and am curious about the Ford Powerstroke intercooler. I have located one with the aluminum end tanks and I know that a few are running them on the board here. Red's Hot Air ran 133mph so I know they work.
I have a Spearco 2 core intercooler now that is rated at 1080cfm with .8psi pressure drop. Catalog says about 600hp max before major pressure drop and less cooling benefit. I'm swapping in a larger T-70BB and doubt my intercooler will provide the needed heat transfer so I'm checking out the Powerstroke setup.
It measures 38 1/4x20 1/2" with the end tanks on.... and 30"x18"x2" without the tanks. Is there anyway I can shorten the width..... as I want to put this into my tiny Mazda RX-7. I don't mind cutting up the front of my car... but everything must still remain functional (lights at least). Would a plasma cutter melt it too much to make it fit? What about a band saw?
Also does anyone know what they are rated at CFM wise and pressure drop?
Should I just plunk the cash down and get a PTE intercooler (without pipes)? 4" thick!
I plan on pushing this turbo to the limit at some point and don't want any limiting factors. I have a 3" downpipe and single 3.5" exhaust already.
