Well, all this cam and crank sensor theory is nice and informative, but if the cam sensor roll pin broke (unless I'm missing something) then the oil pump or its drive got real hard to turn, like the Old ford 4.9 I6's. Either the oil pump siezed, or there is a HV kit in there thats putting a high load on the cam sensor drive.
If the cam sensor roll pin sheared, its no arguement that the car would still run, but when it died, why did it die? Did the motor lock up? How much damage was done?
If you mean the little tit on the cam sensor interrupter ring is what broke, maybe your drive is moving up and down enough for it to have contacted the cam sensor cap.
