Frame notch advise

I measured 1 1/2 inches in all the way on the wheel well on the frame. All is good till I get to this point on the bottom of the frame. At this point in top is 2 1/4" but on the bottom it's only 1 1/2" but it makes its way back to 2 1/4. What should I do? Back it down to 1 1/4" or just do it at 1 1/2". I'm putting 3/16 steel back in for the notch. For those of you that has done this. How much did you take off?

I cut out to where the 2 halves of the frame were welded together and used 3/16" steel to box it back up.
