Normally I walk the starting line and look for bald spots on the line and see how the track looks before making a pass and change how hard I leave the line based on what I see. Friday night I was rushing and didn't do that. I just assumed that BMP would hook just like always..

Since the last DH race I worked on the suspension trying to get the car to stay down. I had the two step turned up a couple hundred rpm from the last time. First pass I shook the tires hard enough that the exhaust came apart and bent when it hit the ground. Aborted that one. Got back to the trailer and pulled the exhaust off so I could make some more passes. Unfortunately, I found out that the boost went from 26psi to 30psi because of less exhaust backpressure. Second pass I left off the two step and immediately the slicks went up in smoke. The data log showed at least two seconds on the rev limiter. I was in and out of the throttle until it got traction and then I had a flame come from under the hood. I shut it down and coasted off the track. There was a stream of water coming out of the side of the head.

Here's what it looks like when you see an AFR of 15.9:1 and 30psi all while sitting on the rev limiter....

Man this sucks. Can the block be saved? I can't tell how deep the mark is in the pics..

If you need a piston shoot me the specs. We have a few pistons left over from the last mishap on the TSM car.

Crap man! That was a fresh build! Oh its not that bad, nothing some JB Weld cant fix!;) Sorry to see that.

Jason

That is horrible. Man o man.

What boost level do you usually launch at 26? Just was wondering cause you were on the 2 step and at 30.

Hope the block is OK.

well hell

all that boost trying to beat richie  lol Time for an ls1 firebird. Buick days are long gone

Sorry to see that, I am not sure I would want to save the block itself.

How did the A/F get that high, is that from the rev limiter killing spark or fuel in the cylinders??

Probably shoudlnt have sold the Big Stuff:rolleyes:
Nope, XFI worked fine. This was complete driver error.

Jason, did you re-flash the ECU?
No reflash. Same program I've been running 9.6-9.7 on.

I think it was a combination of my lead foot and the delay between my head and foot..lol When I let off the transbrake the slicks went up like a top fuel car because the boost ramped up immediately to 30psi. All this happened because I had to pull the exhaust off on the pass before. 26psi with exhaust and 30psi without.. I know what I'm doing next..:D

I usually launch around 3700 @ 13psi. The boost instantly went up because of no exhaust. I didn't catch it in time and it stayed on the rev limiter.
7000rpm + 30psi + rev limiter= carnage..

Actually, after looking at it I think the head gasket and aluminum head melted to the deck surface. Should be an easy fix. I'll give you a call if I need one.

I'll have some video soon of the pass.

Richie has a dvd from that night. If you returned phone calls maybe he could hook you up

Although from the pics all the other cylinders look decent right?
Best have that 1 injector flowed and tested,Also if that was cylinder number 1 on a rail fed on the stock side,It may be leaned out,Next time out,Pull a few plugs after a good run and double check them

Ouch! Sorry to hear/ see this. I kinda went through the same thing my 1st time out a few years ago, except that the fp regulator hose blew off and my lead foot vs. head dilemma took over, blowing the hg ring out big time on #3 cyl. I then forced myself to learn how to stare at the fp guage all the time during a pass . :o Hey, good luck w/ the motor and all. I hope all turns out well for ya.
