Front brake pad change?

How does this part install

Snaps int the caliper cup to hold the pad.

One would think so, but no this isn’t it. That’s why I asked, I’ve done brakes before but never seen this piece of hardware here

If it went inside the cup, it would be wide enough to provide tension inside it
