I got my alky kit from SMC a couple days ago and was looking at the install instructions. I can't mount the alky tank where the instructions say because of my Ramchargers dual fans.
Where did you with dual fans mount the tank?
Pictures would really help too!
Thanks.

I have the same set-up except that the fans are dual Spals. Same problem so I had Steve make me an approx. 42" line and mounted the bottle underneath in back of the pass. side headlights. Sorry no pics. but it works. HTH

Yes, right in front of battery but the install is from underneath. I had welded 2 brackets with which to bolt clamps to. You are still able to remove bottle cap by reaching thru hole in front of battery and I fill the bottle with a long flexible metal funnel.

How much extra did it cost to have the longer alcohol line and wiring harness made for the kit? I'd like to order the same type of kit that would relocate the tank behind the passengers' side headlights, kind of a stealth mode kit.

Thanks,

James West

To mount your alky tank behind the pass. side headlights, you won't need any additional length on the harness. It is more than long enough as it is. You will need the longer braided alky hose though.

I thought of mounting it there, but thats where my oils filter sits....;)

Bill is right about no additional $ for harness as it is already long enough. I don't remember an additional charge for the 42" line; he charged me $25 extra for the dual nozzle. If he charges you it will be a small amount as Steve is pretty fair about small items.

I climbed under the front of the car and found that I could easily put the bottle there without a problem. Seeing the pressure gauge and getting the lid off weren't the easiest, but possible. Then I remembered billsgn saying something about his oil filter being there and that when I put a turbo on in a couple months that I too will be putting the oil filter there.
Now I think I've found a way to mount it right where the directions recommend. I think I can just get some longer L-brackets than what SMC provided and run the mounting bolts through the side of the fan shroud. I'll have to look at it a little more and do some test fitting, but it might work. Only thing is I'm not sure how sturdy it would be.
But if anyone has any other ideas or mounted it in any other way than was mentioned let me know...maybe I'll like that idea better and I'll buy you a cookie. :)

Thanks to all who've replied so far!

Dan,

If you like the idea of putting it behind the passenger side headlights, but can't due to your oil filter going there, just put it behind the drivers side headlights....;)

HTH....Bill

I crawled under my TR & I think I can mount the oil cooler, dual oil filters & the alky tank behind & below he pass side headlights. I need to remove the cheap oil cooler I have there now to be able to take more measurements. I will be replacing it with an Earls cooler. The oil filters will be fairly low, but about 2" above the bottom of the front bumper.
I'm having trouble visualizing the location of the installation by AirBuick. I see gaining access to the cap through the opening between the radiator support & the front bezel?

Bill,

It might be kind of hard to get the alky tank in there with the Mark Hueffman cold air kit putting the air filter there. ;)

LOL....:D

Yeah, that would make it tough! You got way too many bolt ons for your car. At this rate, you will need a trailer to hold the rest of them!!! ;)

I have a PTE Front mount and had a hard time mounting the new Rectangular tank from SMC onto my fan shroud. I relocated my vapor fuel canister down to the drivers side frame rail (just down and over approx 6" from original location) It is accessable from under front of car. The return lines and selenoid connector were still long enough to reach without modification. I just used one HEAVY DUTY wire strap to aattach the Vapor fuel canister to an existing bracket and it sits right on top of frame rail. I then mounted my alcohol container where VFC was and used a 42" line that Steve supplied. HTH

Kent,
Do you have any pics? I must have pics...hard for me to visualize things sometimes. ;)

Dan, I think I did the same thing Kent described.

I moved my charcoal canister down on top of the frame where the stock airbox mount was.

I have a long locktie thingy holding it to my stealth engine anchor strap. Just cut a shorter piece of fuel line to go to the metal line on the frame and the sensor wire and smaller rubber line all fit perfectly.

The SMC bottle now sits where the canister did. I used a piece of strap iron to bolt to the rad support and bend straight down (upside down 'L'). The two bolts on the SMC tank now go into that strap iron.

The supplied SMC line was 11" long and I needed 24".

Steve said to return the stock length line and he would swap it for anything uo to 36" at no extra charge. :-) Not sure that he always does that but he did for me.

I will be taking picts of my setup very soon. Now the SMC bottle sits right behind the rad support and in easy reach.

Sorry Dan but I just did the install and have no pictures yet or a scanner to send them. I would be glad to tell you over the phone if you are thinking of this location. Basically the alcohol container would go the opposite side from where the battery sits. This would be on the drivers side. I have a 9" K&N set-up and it still clears the filter. Aftermarket cold air inductions would possibly be in the way of mounting in this location. Let me know if I can help any further. I will try to get some pics posted soon. HTH

I have an aftermarket cold air kit too. It is the typical 4" metal pipe off the MAF...curves toward the headlights and then does a bend straight down inside the rad support to the K&N.

SMC tank fits perfect.

It is in the exact same spot as the batter on the other side.

Kent and Renthorin,
I'm going to go out later today or tomorrow and see if I can duplicate what you guys did. Sounds like it might be better for me than what I've seen/figured out so far.
Thanks to all who've responded so far!

That's a good idea Salvage. I saw your set-up and changed it a little to fit my needs. I designed a bracket that would bolt where the turbo shield used to bolt to but designed it to hold the alky bottle itself. I just hope there isn't too much heat in this area or it's bye bye bottle. I designed it to hang alot lower than the exhaust housing so it may be alright. Anybody else got any ideas?
