Is the IROC camaro front swaybar the same as the Z 28 swaybar? The guy at the boneyard has a Z 28 but not an IROC.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Tarey D.

It all depends...

I bring a 34MM adjustable/crescent wrench with me. Most bars I find are 32MM.

Where does it say that?

I do stand corrected. 1LE website says 36 and 32. I have yet to see a 36.

I guess it depends on how you measure it. 2mm is pretty small. Someone could have gotten that.

Generally the hollow 36mm bar was only used on cars with 16" wheels. Depending on the year the Z/28 is the same as an IROC. The 36mm is easy to ID. It is of course hollow and down by the ends where the links are, there are holes drilled for gases to escape when the ends are welded. All other bars are 34mm or smaller in diameter and since they didn't require any welding have no holes. Eric Fisher

Thanks guys, I know what to look for on my next trip to the bone yard this week if it ever stops raining.

Just bring a big a$$ crescent wrench and a tape measure. Put the crescent wrench on the bar, then measure the gap.

BTW, their is hollow and solid, make sure you get the hollow.

Cool. I got my first 36MM bar today. Hooray for me.

I also got some other 32-34MM bars. FYI, they have the little holes also.

The 1LE.net board says that the bars were only 32 and 36. But I swear I got some 34's...

Yeah it seems like they used all sorts of sizes on the Camaro. I've never seen a 32-34mm hollow but I guess its possible because the 30mm on an Impala SS is hollow. I've noticed depending on where you measure the 36mm hollow you get different sizes. Like if you measure in the middle its 36 and towards the first bend its 34-35. Now that you have found one it makes you wonder how many you passed up because you didn't know what you were looking at. Talk to you later. Eric

So are you saying you have three different sized hollow bars?

I have a 34ish bar, but like Eric just said, it can be a 36 if I measure it in a fat spot.

Measure the middle of the bar, away from any bends, measurements get funny around the bends.

Hey guys and gals. I have noticed a lot of people asking what size bars they have, and after being under the nose of a salvage yard IROC on Tuesday, I thought I would take some time and clear some questions up.

I got all this info from my parts and illustration manual. Those things really help a lot, and if you do a lot of part searching, I would get one...it'll save you a lot of time. Also, look into the CD rom version listed on the home page.

FYI, RPO codes are as follows from the decoder:

F41 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, FRT, RR, FIRM RIDE, HANDLING
FE1 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, S0FT RIDE
FE2 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, RIDE HANDLING
FE3 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, SPORT
Unable to locate code ZK3 in our database!
Z28 : MERCHANDISED PKG, SPECIAL PERFORMANCE

ZK3 is the export model so if you have one, you know who you are. Part numbers follow the descriptions.

That ought to do it. Some had no "codes" and I have no idea what the hell that means. So by checking these codes against what is in your car, you should be able to verify what bars you have.

Good list, Scott!

1LE = 36mm

FROM WWW.GNTTYPE.ORG :

OK, simple question. What sizes did the hallow bar come in? One size, two sizes, three sizes?

1LE sway bar update...

I did some reading up and according to what I have read:

Approximately 2000 3rd gen f-body Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebirds came with the 1LE option. The 1LE option included a 36MM front sway bar, and ONLY at 36MM. Not 32 or 34.

However, all the other 3rd gen f-bodies came with either 27mm, 30mm, 32mm, 34mm, or 36mm sway bars.

So, a 36MM sway bar could possibly be from a non-1LE car, but a 1LE car had only a 36MM sized sway bar.

Where'd you find the 36mm, Shawn? I rarely go to the yards but would like to get one of those puppies for my funk ride.

I have one on my car.

I have a bunch of bars at home, but I forgot if I have any 36's. I think I only have 34's.

The 36's are going to be really hard to find since they only made something like 2000 1LE cars, and it looks like it was a rare option on the other f-bodies.

If you can't get a 36, I would go with a 34 and the jounce bars. The jounce bars are great.

Of course, you could bid on Scott's 36mm bar on ebay...
