I cant keep the boost down on my new turbo.
It is a Precision billet 67/65 with a h cover housing and a .85 exhaust side
This thing spools quick...and don't stop!!!

I amusing a 3.5 in internally gated d/p with a h/d actuator
after some driving with the rod on as loos as possible i had good enough exhaust marks to open up the bypass hole...i didn't go to the edge but only about 1/2way there

I just got back from driving the car and making a 3rd gear pull with the puck wired full open with a carb spring....it took a bit but the boost eventually went up up and away...and the time it hit 15 it got to 25 in the blink of an eye!!!

I watched my knock gauge light up and my fast illuminate the ses light (injector d/c max)... I don't wanna do this again!

Id like to regulate the boost around 20psi for now until i can do a fuel system.

So whats next...grind to the edge?
Run a gate on the crossover pipe?
i will eventually to to an external gate pipe but dont want to make the hole too big(if thats possible)

Sorry so long but thanks for reading and please HELP!!!!

The new generation of turbos are very efficient & sounds like the waste gate hole is still too small. Measure the waste gate puck with a pair of calipers, example if the puck measures 1 1/4 "open the hole to 1" or 1.100 1n. as long as you have around an 1/8 in. sealing surface you should be safe. The carbon pattern that's established around the hole on the ex. housing should be used as a guide. As it may not be exactly concentric to the puck.

theres a good deal on the fs forum for a 50mm gate, i had to bite the bullet and ordered a tial 44, i think rjc is selling a bigger puck for internal dp's, but i think most would just go with an external

RJC time and open the hole a lot bigger. I wouldn't bother with the external because guess where the gases come from, the same tiny hole you're Dremeling on the housing. :frown:

Maybe PTE can machine a larger hole for those going External, like 50mm so it will be worth swapping over to and really tame these monster turbos.

im taping a new pipe from the passenger header with a nice angle coming into the external, then routing back to dp.. local shops around town have quoted me around 2-3 hrs labor. this avoids using the little hole on the turbo which would just be plugged up.

but yeah, no sense in running the external off the same puck hole

Trying to run a turbo that will support 800hp at 450-500hp. Lol

I've got the same turbo and even with a Deltagate I couldn't hold back the boost, went to a PTC 46 mm wastegate, rock steady at whatever pressure want.

I have a billet 6765 with a ATR external gate DP and a Tial 38. I have no issues controlling the boost. I got it down to 17lbs with a 15lb spring. It was 48 degrees out that day too. I also have a 6262 with a 3" THDP/HD actuator on my TTA with a ported stock head/stock short block. I have very little boost creep running it at 25lbs. I have can get the boost down to 20lbs no problem. Both cars trap at 125ish at 23-24lbs of boost.

The cheapest way would be to do the bigger puck from RJC. It is 1.625".

Also one of my buddies bought one of the Chinese 3.5 internal gate DPs from DLS and the flapper was rusty when he first got it. So he had a lot of overboost issues. He put in a SS RJC and it has been fine since.

makes good sense i think ill smear grease on the puck and then stamp it down for a solid "footprint" to grind to...

If the grinder don't do it , I will try this!:)

I Just bought a 6265 for mine & put mine on a milling machine at work. I left about a 1/8th distance before the sealing of the puck. Before, the boost went up to 29+psi.!!! It only took a second & lasted a second before I eased out of it. After milling my port hole and putting everything back with the rod disconnected Im down at 10psi steady. I took timing out & fueled up for this procedure now it's time to inch up to 20-21psi :)

Now that's a PUCK!!!

I'll probably be doing this soon. Anyone installed the RJC puck into a Terry Houston DP?

WOW look at how much bigger that hole can go now looks like ill be calling monday...

Don't go bigger than you need to or you may have problems when you go up on injector and try and turn it up.
