I've been trying to replace my fuel filter today and can't get the nuts on the fuel lines to budge. I finally sprayed some rust eater lubricant on them to let them soak for a while before I try again. Let me make sure I'm doing this correctly:

Is the the nut size on the fuel lines 16mm ?
I'm trying to turn the rear nut counter-clockwise or toward the driver side, and trying to turn the front nut toward the passenger side. Is that all I have to do (of course making sure I have no fuel pressure in the system) ? Do I then just move the nuts back on the line and pull out the old filter ? I didn't have any trouble with the bracket even though it's a bit rusty. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't recall the actual size of nut, but yes, it will be metric.

The nuts are standard "right-hand" thread. When you're looking AT the female end of the filter , the nut loosens in the CCW direction. I believe that's what you're saying.

A flarenut wrench is recommended, else the nuts could round-off from a regular open end wrench.

The fittings are the so-called "Saginaw" style, there will be an o-ring on the end of the tube. Make sure it is still there when the tubes are removed from the filter, and not stuck inside the old filter!

Might be a good idea to pickup a couple new o-rings from a GM dealer, just in case.

I had a hell of a time trying to get my off, the last person that own the the car really wrenched it on. I actually had to cut the line on one side of the fuel filter to get it off. Then I just went to a local parts store and got a pipe with the right size nut some high pressure fuel injection hose and the expensive clamps. Not sure if this is the right way to do it but I didn't what to replace the whole line. Seems to be holding up well.
