I went to change my fuel filter today, the male side of the connection that runs to the old fuel filter was really rusty and not trying to rotate. The wrench that i had on slipped once before i gave up because it started to rain. Any tips on getting these lines off? will liquid wrench or other penetrating lubricants work here or will that be bad for my fuel system? thanks.

it might help...keep dousing it every half hour for a couple of hours and then pray. They snap alot.

DO NOT USE A TORCH!!! :D

This is a job for PB Blaster, best damn penetrant made.

PB Blaster a few times then with one wrench on the filter and one flare nut wrench on the fitting you start to work the two wrenches back and forth in both tightening and loosening motions.

That allows the fitting to break free of the pipe where it is probably binding first.

Once it starts to move more blaster then do the same loosening and working of the threads. Don't only go in one direction.

Finally when everything is free and clear and you clean it all up good use a dab of neverseize on the flare nut threads.

The flare does the work so use the proper torque number and don't overtighten it.

Of course I learned all this the hard way. One car has a braided line now with hose clamps and the filter with the barb end on it. ;)

remember to use the PB blaster directions- setup some kind of vibration in the part, by banging on a wrench on the part with a hammer or directly on the part, this step is probably the best - you need to get that pb to soak into the threaded portion.
