I have recently installed a new fuel tank (from Napa) and a new in-tank 340lph Racetronix fuel pump (wired to the Alt. w/Racetronix harness) into my '87 GN. I used the fuel pump tank seal that came with the new tank. After the initial install and starting the car I noticed fuel coming from the top of the tank and running down the sides. So I dropped the tank and checked it out, I noticed the fuel pump tank seal was loose to the point I could easily rotate the pump by grabbing the lines. So I bought a new fuel pump seal from O'Reilly's and installed it. I put 12v to the pump with the tank out of the car and I did not see any leaks from the seal or lines, the lines were not connected to the car. Thinking that I fixed it I reinstalled the tank and fired up the car. After approx. 30-45sec. of running the same fuel leak occurred.
I am taking a break from it for now. I am thinking that maybe there is some issue with the return line. I am using the proper fuel injection hose and clamps. Has anyone had this problem before?

I bet the supply or return lines are leaking or the sender has a rusty pin holes in the supply or return line pipes. The lines hooked up to the factory lines and pump energized induces psi in the system an then the leak starts. You can't diagnose until everything's hooked up like normal

The sender is new so those lines should be ok unless it's a loose clamp. I did not see any leaks from the steel lines going between the two sets of rubber lines. I hope to figure it all out this weekend.

Looking forward to you updates. I've got a fuel leak as well. Towing the car from storage tomorrow. Looking for some troubleshooting tips.

that's not right. Those parts are supposed to be tabbed so they have to be clocked correctly. Even if the retaining ring was loose, it shouldn't be able to rotate unless the hanger lifts up about 3/16".

I'm confused. It the leak at the large rubber oring where the sender drops in or somewhere else?

Also, if you hooked 12V to the pump without the lines being hooked to the car, you should have jizzed fuel all over the place with great vengeance and furious anger (laying waste to the yard if you were outside)

So I checked out the fuel lines using my borescope with the engine running, not the safest idea but I found the issue. The steel return line that runs between the rubber lines has a crack/rusted because after the car runs for 30-45sec after start-up I can see fuel spraying out of the line like Niagara. So now I plan to replace all 3 of these lines. I'll see if Inline Tube sells them in stainless.

earlbrown: Yes, when I had 12v hooked to pump with the tank out of the car fuel jizzed out and into a drain pan that I had strategically placed. The Pulp Fiction line cracks me up!

I installed my new stainless steel fuel lines today and no more leaks. I replaced all 3 frame to tank fuel lines with SS from Inline Tube, they were bent perfectly but a little pricey-$95 +shipping.
