I have 50lb inj., TE60, stock ported heads. I've left the fuel pressure the same since I bought it. It's set at 58. Is this ok for the street and what should it be when I go to the track w/ race gas and boost over 20lbs. of course? Thanks.

58

what chip are you using? Most recommend 42-45 vac line off......

Yeah, 58:eek:

You sure the gauge is right? If so, it shouldn't need that much. With or without race gas, 48 would be pushing it..

Honestly, don't know which chip, bought the car like this. But getting T+, LS1 MAF, Extender chip soon. I guess the gauge is right, it's on the fuel line. I'm going to be getting a new gauge soon though. I'll try it lower. Thanks a lot guys.

I'm gonna mess with it today. But when I go to the track, should I turn it back up?

58PSI???

Regardless of the chip, I see no reason to run that kind of base FP, UNLESS the pump is going away and the seller knew it and turned the PSI up, knowing the prospective buyer would want to get some boost up to see if the car was right..
I'd WANT to see some scan tool readings b4 a trip to the track goes down...;)
I'm betting the engine is pig rich and not knowing what else, if anything, is modified on the car, would turn the PSI down to the low 40's static and go from there.

A TE-60 is gonna require some serious tuning, especially that there's no mention of a converter change.:(
How about a list of all that has been done to the car, or is what we are seeing all you have??

I'd be REAL cautious on the tuneup and such B4 I made any attempts at race gas and high boost.

Back under my rock:D :D :D

2800 stall, ported stock heads, V2, 50lb inj, etc. I think my AFPR is messed up. I turned the car on and it said 40 and then a few minutes later 45. Going to get a new one now. Code 42 came on yesterday and it was running like crap.

Gettin' somewhere!!

Mike, that's more like an engine combo that can handle the TE-60 and such!!;) ;)

The FPR could be a problem. When the vac. line is off, does the line have any gas in it? Any gas in the top of the reg?

Does the car still have the charcoal cannister on it? If not and the line is blocked, then the tank, assuming it has the right cap on it, has no vent. I have seen the FP go up after the engine is shut off due to pressure being built in the tank due to no vent.
Be sure to check PSI w/ the engine running, not by just "key on".
Code 42.. My GM diagnostic manual says:
EST or bypass fault.
The ECM has seen:
1. Open or grounded bypass circuit on terminal 11.
2. " " " " " " 12.
The "book" also says that the problems are possibly caused by:
1. The "FAMOUS" loose grounds or connections!!
2. Crank time over 10 sec. w/ fully charged batt.
3. Abrupt recycling of the key within 5 5 secs.
EST harness too close to plug wires or hi energy harness.

I'm betting on #1!!

HTH,

I'll check about the FP stuff tomorrow. But something very weird happened when I started her. The fp was all the way down to 35. I didn't touch anything and then it raised itself a few psi. My regulator and gauge are probably shot-gonna get some new ones. Should I play with the regulator and see what happens? Should the vaccum line be on when adjusting? I'll have more info tomorrow. Thanks a lot.

FPR ADJ??

Always adjust the FP w/ the engine running, line off. Anyone around there have another ga. you can use ??
I test alot of the rail mtd "inexpensive" ga.'s NOT 1 IS CLOSE to the certified ga. on my fuel injector test bench.
I sell the ACCUFAB billet regs, if you need 1, I have 2 in stock.
e-me off list, if interested.

Getting new gauge tomorrow. How much for the regulator Chuck? Thanks again.

I saw you ask this a couple times.... the answer is no, you do not have to turn it up for the track. What happens is, for every psi of boost, the fuel pressure will rise by one psi. So basically, the FPR will regualte this itself. If you set the FP to a normal setting (let's say 45psi, line off), then when you put the vacuum line on, it will be around 39psi FP. When you are accelerating just enough to not make boost, then you'll be at 45psi FP. If you boost to 15psi, then the FP will be (line off pressure + amount of boost) 60psi.

chuck, do you know of a better fp gauge than the kirbans im currently running? my gauge is all over the place,+/- 2-4psi due to engine vibration(?), and the t fitting sprung a leak to boot. if theres a better one out there, please tell me what it is & where to get it...never felt like that thing was accurate anyway

I'll second that, my rail mounted gauge never was accurate. After about 6 months it completely went South.

Get a good removable gauge with the extender hose. That way you can tape the gauge to the windshield and monitor WOT fuel pressure. Most of the vendors sell the complete package.

My 50's like FP at 42-44, line off.

I got a metco or mepco liquid filled that seems to be a quality unit.It replaced the standard rail mounted paper faced one I bought from kirbans. It seems to respond fast to adjustment unlike the other cheaper one that did not at all.
