Hey y'all

I had a question about the fuel pump on the Buick Grand National. It's an 84.

I'm looking into buying a car in the area, and the guy says that it needs a new fuel pump.

What I'd like to know is, what types of things are telltale signs of a fuel pump going bad? And how much would it cost to get a replacement for a Buick? Or is it just generic for all cars that you can buy any old fuel pump?

Bear with me here, I'm relatively new to the whole mechanics of Buick's, let alone cars in general. (Young guy here)

Pump and HW kit is around $150. Don't waste your time or $$ with any other pump, and be sure to buy here, or another approved TR vendor.
RXG7-FPKG

Only way to tell if the pump is bad is with a pressure gauge of some sort.
Smartest thing is to go ahead and replace it.

If you do the work yourself, you can do it in about an hour with some basic tools.

Thanks a ton Jerry.

I'll probably get my self acclaimed mechanic of a brother to come over and do it. He's pretty good about that type of stuff and maybe I can learn a thing or two while he's doing it. ;)

That is, when I get the car. I'm really kinda focused on buying it. The thing is too good to pass up. :)

I appreciate the help. :)

Actually, you know, I just realized something else I wanted to ask.

As much as I want to just work on driving the car around adn getting used to it, I am also interested in racing too.

I've only got 2 people I'd really like to run. Thing is, it's a Jetta and a Bronco.

Think an 84' GN can handle those cars or no?

Depends on a few things, mainly;
1- The shape and tune of the 84
2- How fast the Jetta and Bronco are.
3- How bad you want to beat them.

A well tuned and set-up 84 can hold its own quite well. ;)

there are a few of use running 11's hotair so im sure you can take them.

They're both stock. Though the Jetta is a Turbo'd one.

Bronco is a 305 I think. One of those work V8's.

Just wondering why no one suggested a Walbro pump. It seems like a popular choice. How much for a pump and hot wire kit?:)

the link we posted is a walbro pump. a true walbro is the only way to go.
