I have looked every where on the car and made sure every thing is tight but iam still getting bad knock in neu and as soon as it starts to boost. The knock gauge is in the red fast but nothing on the scan tool. I pulled the knock gauge wire and test drove it and it seemed to run pretty good for 17psi, now i dont no if its real or fulse and where its coming from. If my knock sensor is to tight in the block could this do it because i just put a socket on it and turned it in pretty hard.

I bought my car brand new, and it came with a non-functioning spark control module from the factory--and I didn't know it for YEARS...

For 100,000 miles, my ECM NEVER pulled any timing, so MY knock-control gauge was my EARS! And let me tell you, I got into SEVERE knock MANY times...my only recourse was to feather the gas pedal! To this day, I'm not sure why I never broke anything or lost a head gasket...It was weird not hearing any knock after I finally got a working ESC module!

--then came the timing chain change, and then I started HEARING knock again. This was because my cam sensor ended up being set too advanced (and why I ALWAYS suggest checking it whenever anyone suddenly has lots of knock!)

...if you're getting fairly bad knock you SHOULD hear it! (but of course, not always)...

SO--you have a knock sensor saying you have knock, but a scantool showing no knock retard, correct? Based on MY past experience, it just might be that YOUR spark control module isn't working! And if you're in fact getting into knock, and your ECM isn't pulling timing, it WILL run WORSE knocking at 28° timing than NOT knocking at 20°!

If possible, try changing spark control modules and see what happens...if you start showing retard on your scantool, you found it!

I had one bad 009 injector that caused lots of spark retard revving in neutral as well... Couldn't figure it out to save my life! So I said screw it, pulled the knock sensor wire and went full tilt for about 1/8 mile and then BOOM! Banged #3 on the head gasket. Still went 11.95 @ 80 mph though! Finally I pulled the injectors and threw in 55 lb'ers and cured my problem. I later had them tested and one came back bad.

ZOINKS!!!!

That's it right there...The knock sensor has to be torqued to 14 ft/lbs...No less and no more...If less than 14ft/lbs, it won't be sensitive enough, and if more than 14ft/lbs, it will be too sensitive!!!

if my knock sensor is bad will my gauge not work but my SM still show some knock.

If your gauge is wired into the ecm, then it should react the same to knock as the Scanmaster reads...
