While driving the car yesterday the stereo lost power. I got to the in-laws and shut the car off thinking the fuse for the stereo had blown. I checked the fuse and it was still good but I noticed the power accessories fuse (metal one) had been bypassed with a piece of foil by a previous owner. The interior lighting isn't working and I have a Kirban touch and start system that isn't getting power either so the car wouldn't start. I am able to plug the touch and start system into the cig lighter fuse and get the car to start.

So how do I get the fuse panel out and how much of a pain is it? I have a feeling that a wire or connection on the backside of the fuse panel is fried and creating an open circuit. I do have power to one side of the fuse and even with a jumper wire across the fuse connections I still get nothing to the lights. I don't have any power to any of the other battery ports on the fuse panel either.

find out exactly which ports are bad.... its possible the fusible link is blown.... if thats the case - you fix that in the engine compartment, NOT the fuse block.

The power accessory is melted due to the makeshift foil fuse and the battery connection at the bottom of the fuse panel doesn't have any power either. So right now I don't have a trunk light or dome lights and radio.

Ok I nicked the output wire from the power accessory fuse orange with black stripe and put a jumper in place of the fuse so I have 12 volts past the fuse so that isn't a problem. I don't have power to the bottom center single female connection on the fuse panel. So what would cause that to loose power? Whatever it is it also has shut down the radio and the dome lights!

It's the cig/clk fuse circuit that is giving you trouble. Do you have one of the Service Manual CDs from T-Top GN? Invaluable. In section 1, the power distribution diagram shows that fusible link B supplies power to the cig-clk fuse. There are 3 fusible links and they all look the same. As mentioned before, get under the car and check both ends of the fusible links coming off the starter. That is the beginning of the power source. You have to work forward to the fuse box from there. The cig/clk fuse is what supplies those two battery female connections you are talking about as well. It's all related but start at the starter.

As for the fuse box itself, there is a bolt in the center you can unscrew from the connector side of the fuse box on the firewall. However getting it back together is a real pain sometimes. It can be done.

John I have power to the cig/clk. i dont have power to the battery connection on the fuse panel, dome and trunk light and the constant 12 volt to the stereo. I can drive it to Indy if you want to give me a hand fixing it:D. Everything else is working as it should. All of the fuses have 12 volts. Unfortunately I don't have the manual cd. A friend of mine is scanning the schematics and is going to e-mail them to me.

Are all three fusible links coming off the starter?

You can stop by, I don't mind. We'll figure it out. It's supposed to rain Saturday.

All 3 fusible links do come off the starter. However if you have power at the cig/clk fuse then the fusible link is likely not the problem. Still a good idea to know regardless. The cig/clk fuse supplies those two battery terminals on the fuse block. You may be right in that a wire behind the block has burnt or broken. The cig/clk circuit is on page 8A-11-2 and the power accessory breaker is on 8A-11-8.

Well the cause of my problem is fixed. The connection on the cig-clk fuse was open so no power was making it past the fuse. A little patience and some solder fixed it now. The best thing to come out of it all was getting the foil out of the rear window defrost circuit breaker. Thanks for all the help.
