Saw this ported throttle body for sale on Ebay... what would the the gains be from a throttle body with these changes? Is this an effective mod for the hot airs? Ebay Link
Here's the description for the work performed: "The work performed on these parts is boring the rear half out 5mm larger and grinding down the IAC tubes in front of the blade. The CFM is further enhanced by cutting away the front half of the throttle shaft which adds the equivalent of 3 mms of additional CFMs. the plate is then fastened with low profile screws that are loc-tited in place."

Thanks,
Tim

I cant really see that much of a gain from just the throttle body being smoothed down it also says its the same size plate inside so your lookin at very minor gains if any just my opinion

A bigger throttle body wont make your car faster, but it will give it better response. You only need a bigger tb when you are 10s or faster. This is from research i have done and not by experience, i do not have enough money to waste on mods that dont work. I usaully buy mods according to what this site says will work, alot of info. http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/

The Vortex Buick site is a GREAT site with some AWESOME info!
Having stated that, the TB description on the Vortex site is in regards to the IC - TB, which, sees pressure at boost.

While a larger TB on a stock hot air turbo will not result in any significant gain (if any), there is merit to "claimed gains from larger TB's" provided it becomes the restriction or constraint in your set-up. IMHO, a larger TB bolted directly on a stock Hot Air Turbo will have negative results based on the sudden change in diameters. Remember these cars do not have the nice "funnel connection" at the intake side of the turbo.

No, bigger is not better, but bigger may be required.
There is also a delicate balance between flow and velocity, but that is another story.

Bigger TB counts with a bigger turbo. It is very limited at the turbo, in comparison to the inlet from the intake tube. If your TB is bigger bore than the turbo, then it is pointless...however, if they are identical, you are only optimizing the amount of air allowed in the turbo...Just like boring out the adapter between the intake and the turbo...It is pointless if it is bigger than the turbo outlet, because the turbo cant squeeze more air out of it unless it is ported out also....Gains can be made, but I believe the turbo is the root of all the modifications, and so, the turbo must me altered or replaced prior to any other major porting or boring.

As for the TB, I have never heard of negative results...at all...So what is the harm?

I am sending two out myself to that seller to be ported, polished and powercoated....one of each...However, i am going with a much larger turbocharger, and injectors, and intakework , and head work....So, each mods complements the next....

HTH!

if you want to see gains from a ported TB on a stock turbo hotair car contact steve monroe for this. you can send him your TB and compresor housing to your turbo and port both to match so airflow will be vastly improved on both sides of the board witch will increase power and spool up of the stock turbo, since it bottlenecks down so much at the backside of TB and inlet of turbo. IMHO this is a good inexpensive mod to increase power to go along with some 36# injectors.
