These profits for the most part are going back into the companies that made them, bigger buildings, better delivery systems. They definitely are not going into exploration, extraction or refinment. If they could place those profits accordingly they would. It's crazy to think that companies are taking these profits everyone is talking about and going down to buy mansions and a fleet of SUVs. They are placing them back into the companies the built those huge profits. I wouldn't want to foot the tax bill for 17 billion in profits. As mentioned before if they were allowed to place those profits in exploration, extraction and refinment, we would all be better off. But until Environmentalists loosen their grip oil companies will place their profits elsewhere.

I have always been skeptical on the 60mpg carbs and such. Remember you can only get so much energy out of a gallon of gas. Engines can become more efficent, but to stick a modified carb on a 76' Eldorado and get great gas mileage is not going to happen...Well unless you drive 10 mph. :) That's just an opinion, not trying to step on anyone with that one.

i love hearing about the carb that gets 70 mpg, what do you think a person can put in a carburator that gets that kinda milage, fuel and air need a certian ratio to burn, what can a venturi in this magic carb do that changes basic chemistry?

If you put a 20 Hp air cooled Honda on a go kart that goes about 20MPH and burns .8 gals per hour...... That is still not very good mpg but better than a Hummer. Maybe we can all just start packing onto a gokart. Lets see, me driving of course, the wife on my lap. The 12 year old standing over the egine, and the 9 yeaer old hanging on to him. That would put the baby in the wifes arms. I think we can do that just to cut back on my share of the gasoline. Can you guys do you part.

You can always pull a wagon behind you, but your mileage will go to Hell.

Here is the one thing we can all due CUT AND PAST this hole Post all the pages into an email and send it to your congress person, or the white house direct. (all the email address's are posted on each states web site example www.Michigan.gov (my state)
I have all ready sent 10 emails from the different boards to my govener and then also sent 2 to the White house ;)
If they get enough emails and BS going in there way they have to due something.

You're 0 for 2 on that description. I'm neither an A$$ nor rich. I voted for him twice and would give him a third term if it was possible. If you're blaming Bush for gasoline prices, you should study the situation a little more before spouting off. Or you can just parrot what the Democrats and Liberal talk radio and TV tell you to say....

Yeah, it has nothing to do with oil companies posting record profits or Bush being their 'big oil buddy', they should get out the voting records and line em all up ... bang bang....

Faulty logic...

You've got your "cause and effect" backward. Oil companies have record profits BECAUSE of high gas prices, the profit margin didn't cause the high prices. And the "Bush is an oil man" argument just doesn't hold water. Presidents can't control the price of oil or anything else and capping profits is the dumbest idea since "new Coke".

Nope I'm not rich either, and I would too vote for Bush again. These Libs must be watching an entirely different movie. I don't quite understand all the hatered towards Bush. The question I want to ask, is what would the Libs do to lower gas prices beg and plead with Gore (I shiver at the thought) if he were president, do they really think the President whether they are Rep or Dem can control the price of oil or anything for that matter. If these guys like the idea of price caps and anticapitalism, maybe they should try socialism.
