Gas smell

I opened the hood on my car today and noticed the smell of gas. I got to looking for it and found that vaccum canister is the cause. It is coming from the bottom of the canister. What does this mean.

Can i get a new one at the autoparts store or is it a dealers item.

I don't know but I removed mine a couple years ago with no negative effect.

Just change the filter on the bottom of the caniser. Perhaps that's the cause?

Most guys seem happy with no canister. When I removed mine, I had constant gas smell. I thought I had a leak. Replaced the canister, smell gone.

Where do i get a filter from.

My car did the same thing. After running for awhile it will pour gas from the bottom. All i did was blocked off the vaccum line going to the valve and took it out.. No problems ever since.

Maybe there's something wrong with the little vacuum solenoid on top of the canister?

Scott has a point. The vapors may not be getting pulled into the engine if there is a solenoid problem.
