OK here is a dumb question again.
I bougt a test pipe off ebay that is brand new. I am not sure if it is home made or manufactured. I need to know PRIOR to taking off my CAT if I will need a gasket for the flange area??
I made the mistake of going to PEP boys because I have a few gift $$ coupons to burn.

I walk in with the pipe so I could match a gasket.. The counter dude said I don't need one?? I say HUH? Then he back off saying maybe you need one but we don't do exhuast systems.
now he got me confused.
Honestly I would think one is needed But I have been wrong
many times in my life.

I can't tell by looking at the cat while hooked up in my car & I don't want to take down unless I am sure I have all the parts
READY to Roll.. ( you know I hate to run to parts store in the middle of a project.)

Thanks

You don't need a gasket. I use the red RTV on there with good luck. Ran it like that for years.

THANKS

THANKS

AS usual i was wrong!

I Have a tube of the RTV red leftover from the BIG BAD 455 Goat motor assembly last year :)

You don't need the RTV either. :) Flanges should be flat however.

Won't hurt though. ;)

headgasket Q

going to be replacing my head gaskets (pretty sure i have a bad head gasket ) What gaskets do are the norm for something like this. what else should I do while im in there, lifters timing, chain, pushrods , cam ect. the car has 80000 miles thanks

No gasket here, no RTV either. We took the original catalytic clogger off my car a few months ago. We had to use an air chisel to "cut" the old one off, and had to cut 2 of the old bolts. You said the test pipe was new, so you'll be in good shape. Mine was used and I had to get a pipe expander to get it to slip over the DP.

BTW, on my basically stock car running pump gas, I installed the test pipe and put in a Power Plate. Next visit to the track I gained 5 tenths in the 1/8. BAM!

Do a search in this forum for "Power Plate".
Get a cup of coffee first.
TONS of good reads.
I don't have numbers to back it up, but I believe.
