Did it have a hitch on it, if so I am familiar with it. Was a guy named Fred the previous owner? Heavy set man with a beard?

I was going to purchase the car from him, but we could not come to an agreement. I know the car has over 100k for mileage. And it sat in his garage for quite a while. Interior is in excellent shape. I thought it would need a new body. How did you hear about the car, I did not think it was advertised. Small world lol
My father in law has some friends in Davison that got the car as a repair job, the owner was either not able to pay or ? Long story short he gave 3000 for it
He had the car for a few months and got diagnosed with terminal cancer and knew I had had 6 gn's myself and had restored a few. He gave me a call and I have been doing my best but the rust is BAD! It finally made it's way to the paint shop a few days ago. New rockers, floor, doors, Quarters, exhaust, wheel trim, and a ton other things. I am about two weeks away from going back and finishing it up (I threw my back out last trip really bad). It has a couple toggle switches that we're puzzling me? I found out one was for the blower motor? Interesting, I re-wired it and got it working right but I can't figure out the other one? It runs into the starter wire but wasn't hooked up? Did he ever say anything about those? What did he want for the car then?RYAN GRAVES

Sorry to hear about your father in law. My offer was 2 years ago and he told me 4500. I said 2500. I would have gave 3000 for it. I am not sure what the wiring is, I am guessing because the column was broke so he put a toggle in to still drive it. He is not mechanically inclined, that is why the car sat. Funny I seen him in December and asked him about it and he said he sold it. In some ways I am glad I did not purchase it, I dont know if I would have the time for it, trying to finish another one and it is getting expensive. Glad to hear someone is putting it back together.
I cant wait to post the after pictures, it has been a journey. The thing now runs super good! I had an 18,000 mile GN that didnt run this good. It's so funny to me that it looks like that but runs that good and looks that way inside. How big was the guy?

He was probably 300lbs. I too was suprised at how nice the interior was. He was not a guy that was a hot rodder. so I am sure he did not abuse it. I think the mods were done by previous owner to him.

I just got onto this site and have to say, Justin..your blue TurboBuick is the most beautiful one I've ever seen in that color!! You did everything right. My eyes just fell out onto the floor
Absolutely great job, if you don't mind me saying. God, it's beautiful! Makes me jealous again. My '87 Grand National came in any color as long as it was black.
Well, anyway, that is the most beautiful one I've seen in blue...everything just goes just right. On your '87 Grand National, the spark plug wires should have the numbers on the wires corresponding to which plug it goes to. At least, that's what I kind of remember...Dad bought this one brand new in '87 and I faintly remember seeing the wires on it. Some clue to originality. Hope this helps you.
I'm very sorry about your father-in-law. Would you give him a hug for me and tell him I'm thinking of him? From a fellow '87 Grand National owner? It might make him smile. Try and get that thing running great for him and let him loose in it. It'll really make him a happy guy.
(I say this, and don't let him read this, because when my Dad gave me his Grand National (saying it was "too fast" for him at age 82) I was doing my best to get it fixed up from all the hard years of him running it like a maniac! He kept after me to hurry up and fix it, he wants one more ride in it...I couldn't get it fixed up in time..he died in my arms. So, I learned the hard way, don't ever procrastinate for someone you love...it can really come back and hurt you bad. It still tears me up now, everytime I go out in the garage to work on it at night. If only.....

I forgot to ask you, Justin...my engine needs cleaning up, too. How did you do yours? It looks like from the pictures that you used a hose or something. Didn't getting water everywhere hurt the wiring connections and give you hard starting? Did you use a pressure washer, rag, hose, soap, degreaser, what? Help out an old guy here, OK?:redface: How did you do such a good job cleaning it?

Thanks for all the kind words. As far as cleaning the engine bay, I just used a water hose and simple green. This will not bother any wiring at all. The only thing I would suggest is if you have an open element air filter, make sure to cover it up as a precaution. You could also do what I normally do and when you take it to get it washed just pressure wash the engine after letting the simple green settle for a bit. The simple green really does wonders.
