Is there anything I should do before I get this done? I did notice the crappy weld job between 3 and 5, but other than that they look good. Should I bother on spending any time smoothing imperfections? This car most likely will never see a track but I was thinking since they're off now is the time.

It couldn't hurt, but will likely never be seen unless you point it out. You might want to gusset the tubes, in which case they won't show anyway.

Contact rmar on the board Jesse. That's what he did for a living until obombout and klinton killed the economy. He did my turbo and a few other parts for me and really knows what he's doing.

Send your header for repair to Scot. W. at GNS Performance. He guarantees his work, and they'll have the gusset, plus they'll never leak.
He's never had one come back.

Then send your headers to Jet Hot for coating. Go to their website first to see what kind of coating they offer you. I had my turbo cover coated there and they did an excellent job!

Moore Power Coatings, metallic ceramic header coatings, exhaust headers coating, ceramic coatings This is the place I was going to take them to since they're only an hour and a half away and near my uncles house so I'll have an excuse to visit him. I don't have a problem with the header leaking as of now but I've done better welding after drinking than what was done on this header. It would probably take more time to clean the boogers up than it would to re-weld it.

THey also mention doing pistons, never heard of that.

[B That makes good sense. Go for it.

Yes, they coat the tops of the pistons on the new ZR1...a real slick idea, but expensive.

Let me know how you make out. I know you've been dying to get that Turbo on the road.

I have a set of dupont cerama-chrome coated stock headers that I will sell you. The driver side header was professionally tig welded before it was coated. I ran these headers without gaskets with zero leaks. The headers will polish up nicely.

I'm dying just to get the damn car finished! Still have lots of work to do. It should be finished just shy under a decade...It's going on year 5 I believe.

The million dollar question....How much?

Yes actually I do have some questions. Will the regular 1300*F coating hold up well enough with our turbo engines? As far as the turbo heat sheild, up pipe, and maf pipe, should I ceramic coat these as well or would I be better off chroming them?

What coating are you looking at ? cerma-chrome or other?

These are all fine for either.

I have my turbo exhaust housing/down pipe and headers coated.

Yes I was looking at the cerma-chrome. I was thinking about just sending it all even my radiator hold down plate and just have them do everything in one shot but thought I'd get some opinions from someone that's done this stuff before. I only want to do it once, ya know?

In my opinion there is no substitute for chrome. If you want chrome get chrome or you will not be happy. All the parts you have mentioned will work fine chromed. They do not need ceramic to live and stay looking good.

They probably will not guarantee the headers or any hot side components in cerma chrome. All the cerma-chrome or silvers start to discolor in the 1300 range. That is why I always use a thermal barrier first and then top coat with cerma chrome.
It is a pain in the arse and time consuming. But that is how I make it live. But just because your egt's hit 14-15-1600 for a short time doesn't mean that the metal temp is there. But if you are breaking in a new cam or pulling a trailer up hill you will be in trouble.

To bad your not in NY, cause then you could check out Swain Tech white lightning ceramic coating @ swaintech.com. A couple of years ago they had a ton of John Force's motor parts there for all different types of their coatings.

This is exactly why I said ask Ronnie. He really knows how to do coatings.
