I'm planning on making a girdle on the jig borer at work. Should be pretty easy.

Is there, available on the web a blue print for the 3.8l buick block?
that would make my life so easy.

If not I will use a gasket as a template and make a mock up out of 6065 aluminum.

I plan on using either 1018 steel or the nice 1119 steel we use for tool plates. Both are heat and sonic hardenable.

My questions to the girdle users here:

How much did you have you take off the main caps get the right fitment? Did you leave the caps a little proud to preload them?

Where did you get the studs? Is there a stud kit avail from the vendor who sold you the girdle? Who are some of the vendors making girdles for these motors?

Thanks

RJC is the only company making them right now. I doubt you're going to find a blueprint for it, its kinda like stealing. I know where you're coming from with having the ability to make it yourself, but I don't think you're gonna find a blueprint. I guess call Jason and see what he says, maybe he will help you out with the studs and stuff.

Ready....heres the best advise all year.....just spend 350 on one from Race Jase..... (RJC). I ve installed many now.....and to make one......not that simple...so if your willing to work for about .25 cents an hour to save your 350 have a blast.... I imagine Jason went through alot of material and ideas before selling what he has now.

BTW, they work well too.

I didn't mean to ruffle feathers.

I'm a tool and die maker.

It's not about saving money or making money I simply derive enjoyment from cutting metal and making my own parts for my engines. I have made straps and halo girdles for my Olds V-8's. I make all sorts of stuff for my cars and motors. I make stuff for my guitar building hobby as well.

I was wondering if there was a blueprint of the 231 block available much like there are blueprints of the sb chivy and f*rd.

I will call RJC. Thanks for that info.
