In honor of GM High-Tech Performance’s 10th Anniversary, the GMHTP staff is planning a supercar shootout to be held at New Jersey’s Englishtown Raceway Park in summer 2005.

We are looking for the fastest, rarest, and nicest examples of EFI GM performance vehicles produced in the last 20 years. Those chosen will spend 1-2 days drag racing and having their vehicles photographed for an upcoming shootout article in GMHTP.

For this particular shootout, we are only looking for production-based vehicles made by GM, or those created in official partnership with GM. In general, if you could check a specific option box when ordering the vehicle, you’re okay. No aftermarket “tuner” cars please.

This is a drag racing event but it is NOT a competition; as such, because of the historical significance of having these rare vehicles together we will only invite owners of STOCK, UNMODIFIED vehicles who are willing and able to thrash them on the dragstrip in front of God, everybody, and our cameras!

Exceptions to “stock”:

Only if original-type air filter is unavailable, aftermarket STOCK LOCATION/SIZE/SHAPE air filters that fit in the factory airbox are acceptable. No cone-type filters or intake systems allowed.

New street-tread tires are acceptable. No slicks or drag radials.

GM-UPGRADED PROMs or ECMs/GM-FLASHED ECMs are acceptable, with emissions/driveability/etc. changes only. NO PERFORMANCE TUNING OR PERFORMANCE CHIPS ARE ALLOWED.
Shifter may be upgraded to an aftermarket unit.

GMHTP is looking for the following vehicles:

405-HORSE CORVETTE Z06
405-HORSE CORVETTE ZR1
BUICK GNX
LT4 F-BODY
1989 TURBO TRANS AM
SYCLONE/TYPHOON
THIRD/FOURTH GEN FIREHAWKS
WS6/SS LS1 F-BODY
2005 400-HORSE GTO

Additionally, there will be a “wild card” F-body slot open to all third and fourth-gens with any engine. This car could be a factory lightweight, uniquely optioned (example: WS6 Formula, Turbo Trans Am hardtop/cloth seats, etc.) or ? Surprise us—but remember, it has to be stock.

Due to the rarity of the above mentioned vehicles, we may choose multiple examples of some vehicles.

Time is of the essence, so send the following information ASAP via email to

Rick.jensen@primedia.com

Three digital photos: engine, interior, and exterior
Information about your proposed entry
Contact phone numbers

We prefer email submissions, but if you must arrange for alternate submission methods, please call 201-712-9300 extension 618.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS TUESDAY, JULY 5, 2005

THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!

This should be really cool to see

Simple, the word "Supercar" implys the fastest factory stock cars GM produced from each entity... The GNX was as we all know the fastest TR (also the rarest) that Buick produced... The TTA is kinda in a league of it's own along with the Syclone and Typhoon being that they were all the same in terms of performance (in other words it wasn't like the Camaro where you have the base model Z28 and then the top of the line SS or as in the Vettes were you also have the base model and then the ZR1 or Z06)...

Who upgrades an ECM with only emissions and driveability modifications? Except maybe for Bruce. ;)

Well yeah that applies to 1987. What about 1986,1985,1984????????

I'm thinking about that April 86 HOTROD(sorry Rick) cover" V-6 Beats Corvette!" If that doesn't define supercar than what does?

Rick, If I read it right this is open to all STOCK GM EFI cars and trucks? If not you might want to reconsider. Your hit list sounds a little elitist. There isn't one affordable car on that list(unless you make 6 figures). In case you haven't figured it out the majority of your readers aren't your typical guys. We dont have a disposable income where we can dump $50K into a car just to make the pages of your magazine. I know you worded it to discourage your average salt belt used car from showing up and that is fine, I dont want to read about 10 second rust buckets either but there are hundreds of well kept cars that would love to show up IMO. I, in particular would like to see a bone stock L98, show room mint F-body or how about some of the lesser cars. Heck, who knows maybe there are enough out there to create a section of your magazine dedicated to restored, unmodified EFI cars. I just wrote a bitch letter to one of the muscle car mags about ignoring any car with a catalytic convertor and computer. Seems they are hot and heavy about the new hemi's and Mustangs along with the 60's stuff but refuse to recognize the cars that made it possible. Its not right and here is your chance to lead the way, be an inovator. Thanks for your time, I'm just venting because my fleet wont be able to make it this year.

BUMP!

Eric, we wanted to do a special issue for our 10th anniversary and this is part of it.

Thanks,

Rick
