Just curious if an GN alternator could/can be used on a N/A Regal?
If so what mods have to be done?
One modifcation that I would know of is changing out the pullies, that is if it can be used.
Trying to get a good alternator for my 455 Regal, I have 2 of these GN ones around, thought maybeeee.......?
Thanks

What setup is currently on the car?

Old school external regulator or internal modern one?

Could be as simple as changing pulleys and connectors or very complicated such as mounting, and rewiring.

It should.

I mean, its a delco alternator. I doubt there is any deference in the wiring or setup..should fit on fine at least to most other G-bodies, not sure about a GS 455. By the way, anybody else have the K09 Heavey duty alternator (120A), and UA1 Heavy duty batery option?

My UA1 heavy duty battery went in the junkyard after about 2 years use. ;)

All '87 TR's have 120A alternators. :)

The alternator I have currently in my Regal is an internal regulator kind.(mid 80`s)
The GN alternator is also but..... it only has one wire coming out of it and the post to hook up the battery.
Whereas the Regal has 2wires coming out of it and, and post for the battery, other than clocking it, the depth and length of the mounting are the same.
Any ideas on if it will to much or hurt anything with much amps or how to make a one wire work in place of a 2wire?
thanks again

Should be fine, hook it up and run with it. As long as it charges it should be ok. the additional amps won't hurt anything. Will be good if you have power accs. or a stereo.

Doh, the 2 wire system for the N/A 6 cylinder Regal is in the service manual for 1987.

Shows that the terminal A is just connected to the battery also.

Should be able to take terminal B most likely the brown wire and hook it up to the terminal L of the regulator where the brown wire goes on the turbo cars.

Should work fine.

I HAVE A V6 NA 87 REGAL. MY STOCK NA ALTERNATOR JUST WENT OUT LAST MONTH. I HAVE ABOUT 10 120 AMP TR STYLE ALTERNATORS IN MY PARTS STOCKPILE. GOT ONE OUT AND IT BOLTED RIGHT ON, SAME MOUNTING SIZES, AND MY LOCAL DISCOUNT AUTOPARTS HAD THE EXACT ADAPTER I NEEDED FOR THE EXTERNAL PLUG. THAT IS A MALE TO PLUG INTO THE TR ALTERNATOR WITH A TWO WIRE LEAD ENDING IN A FEMALE PLUG TO ACCEPT THE ENGINE HARNESS MALE PLUG.;)
