I wouldn't think rubber spray paint would be ideal. The Alum Spary Paint made by goodson is a very good paint. The sign company inspected my old hold pad and said that GM used a Decal on them and that it was NOT painted on. He said the newer vinyl decals are far more durable compared to what they used 25yrs ago, but like I said we will see how it holds up.

It sure looks like a sticker cause you don't see any markings from a silk screening process. On the older ones the logo kind of flakes off in sections. It sounds about right.

So I got both of these yesterday. I first tried using the vinyl decal, and this was no fun. It was having a really hard time sticking to the hood pad especially when I was trying to peel the vinyl away from the decal. The letters kept wanting rise with vinyl as I was trying to pull it off. I think this could be done and it would look nice but it could be VERY time consuming and even maybe worth having a Pro install it. I actually wish now I would've just had the sign company install it. So after screwing with this for over an hour and I couldn't get the 'Buick' portion to look right plus some of the letters were ripped and and all crumpled up, I gave up on the decal. So onto the stencil. The stencil again was VERY time consuming to put on and it actually took two of us to get it to lay down and stick to the hood pad and even then I kept having to back over it to make it look better. After probably 2+ hrs of screwing with it I finally got it the way I wanted it on the hood pad. I then masked the rest of the hood pad and then painted it with the Goodson Alum High Temp Paint. Now I did notice it took ALOT of coats of paint because the hood pad material was really absorbing the paint. I think the stencil came out pretty good, it does have some spots were paint got under the stencil because of the stencil not wanting to stick to the hood pad but overall I am happy with the results. Does it look Exactly like the factory, No, but is it pretty close, Yes it is and like I said for the money it's a good alternative.

Heres a picture of my hood pad after using the stencil. I also did talk to Graphics company and said they are willing to sell these to you guys. Let me know what you guys think.

Ok guys so here's the contact info for the decal/stencil. Just call this place and they will ship you what you want. Remember a stencil is a available and so is a vinyl decal. I did talk to them and they are willing to sell these direct to you guys. Just make sure you reference the 'buick turbocharged' hood decal so they know obviously what they are supposed to look for. Hope this helps a bunch of guys out looking for an alternative!

Any update to this? Did they get back to you? I'm not sure why they wouldn't know what you were talking about unless the guy himself wasn't aware which is possible. If they still don't remember or haven't gotten back to you I will call them and ask who you guys need to speak to. Keep Me posted.

Can we send the $ to you and get us the stencil instead?

I really can't because I work and live in a different city than the company that makes them and I don't have time to run back and forth for orders.

I know this is a older thread and I hope all the guys are still subscribed to it so they see this update. Good news is I found the .pdf file I had made that you can take to your local Graphics place to either have the decal or the stencil made. File is attached, and your welcome! :)

Thanks, I'll give it a try. One thing I did to my old hood pad was paint it flat black with HI temp paint.

No issues at all, so I will try this.

Also, I have a extra brand new Hood pad, without the logo. Anyone interested, let me know. $175.00

I don't want to really ship, its a pain in the @SS. Local commute is way better. Chicago Area.

Thanks.

Truthfully if you still have the GM box the hoodpad came in, you can use that to ship it in. I did this as another board member bought that hoodpad in my picture above. I just took it down to a UPS store and they shipped it. And just to give you an idea about shipping cost, to go from Ohio to Arizona was only around $120 via Ground, which I didn't think was too bad given the distance and the size of the box.
