I have a 85 GN. Since it has a whole different setup from the 85-87 from the turbo position, intake position and no intercooler. I have added a intercooler for the turbo, but I was looking into upgrading the throttle body. I was wondering if the 85 intake manifold was the same, or if possible to change it from the 85 setup of the intake to the 86 with out having to replace the intake. If I have to replace the intake manifold, thats fine, I just need to know if I have to.

After that, I was going to go with the 72mm throttle body. I have a new turbo and exhaust. I know I have to buy new exhaust headers. After I do that, I have to replace the fuel pump and fuel injectors along with the spark plugs. I am just hung up on if changing the 85 manifold is a must or if I can just take the whole 85 set up off and put the 86-87 set up and be merry. Any help would be awesome. I am new to the while GN ownership. I had a 86 Buick regal with a olds 307 in it.

If you want to convert over to the 86-87 intercooled version, you will NEED all the upper end parts off of a 86-87. Most of the stuff is available aftermarket, too. Headers, intake, downpipe, oil drain (which also requires drilling a hole in the front of the block, too) oil feed line, fuel rails, fuel lines, injectors, wiring harness, are all available new and or aftermarket. Though that'll cost WAY more tahn buying a used engine/trans out of a 86-87.

As Ken says ALL upper end and turbo, ALL front pulleys, complete power steering set up with hoses, ALL 86-87 brackets, coil pack and ignition module, air intake system, maf sensor and some other of the 86-87 sensors, 86-87 alt., egr set up. You also have to put a fuel filter someplace which I cut the line under the car and installed it there. Some kind of electric cooling fan set up. 86-87 upper rad. hose. I'm just finishing one of these conversions and there's more to it than meets the eye. I'm lucky though as I have a complete 87 parts car sitting here so I even have all the correct nuts and bolts.
