Hi guy, I found a 87 GN with 38,000 act miles for sale. The owner said that he has not started it in 7 years. I had consided buying it but not sure. Would it scare you guys? BTW it has t-tops, and the only mods is a chip, so he said.

I'd be a bit concerned, would have to see it run and drive it for at least 20-30 minutes for me to consider buying it.

I would also assume the following costs would be considered or repaired prior to purchase or the price lowered for such:

Wires, plugs, fluids such as oil and filter, transmission flush/filter, rear end fluid change, tires, check brakes and flush fluid, belt, battery, wipers, all the rubber hoses and vacuum lines.

Any options not working due to corrosion etc. repaired.

Lots to consider PRIOR to purchase and who will pay for it.

Buying it as is in not running order deduct plenty for the servicing and risk of it costing a ton to get up and running, regardless of the mileage on the motor.

Could also be 138K miles as well, check Carfax and look for other high signs of mileage on the car.

It all depends on how much he's asking for it, then factor in all the things that will need to be changed to get it back in good running condition. Assuming the varmets didn't chew through everything.;)

Hey Ray! Did you buy elliots car? I noticed it missing from the parking lot over here, I figured he musta sold it or something. How is everything?

We'll have to get together and head down to the track one of these days. Im setting up razors alky kit on the t type this week (hopefully its here today)

Sounds like the story of my purchase...I bought my GN from a collector in NC who had four of them (a GNX, an '86 GN, and two '87 GNs). The car was originally bought in Indiana and driven for three years then the collector bought it and put it in storage...it was started now and then but for the better part of eight years it sat in a warehouse.

I flew up, looked at it and it ran good. I drove it the 500 miles to get it home. It ran like a champ but leaked like a sieve. I ended up having to get everything done that Salvage mentioned (and then some).

Definitely do the carfax...I was skeptical at first but the carfax will tell when and where the car has been registered and that will help to prove whether or not the car was indeed for stored as long as the seller claims.

Now that I know more than I did when I first bought my GN I would recommend buying a scanmaster and setting it up so it's portable to take with you when you look at the car to see if it's throwing any codes. They're not that expensive and they're indispensible once you do indeed buy a Turbo Regal.

I think I can get the car for $9,000, He said it still has the org tires on the car. So it would have to have tires.

A 38.000 miles car for 9000 is a damn good deal even if you need to do some work,As long as its 38,000 mile clean

What's up! I thought about stopping by to see you today, but work side tracked me.

Yes, I did buy Al's car. Since we built it in my garage together, I kinda had first dibs if he ever sold it. So, I took it off his hands, and he hooked me up with a good deal.

We will have to get together and hit Qualcom sometime, or even Fontana in the near future. I think Steve Hurst is also planning a get together sometime in March, so keep an eye open and have race gas on tab. I'll see if I can stop by tomorrow (Tuesday) talk to you then.

Ray
