GN Parts Online 3.5" DP installed

I purchased this down pipe received it yesterday and installed it last night at boostjunkie racing headquarters.

First:
- Very nice looking piece, welds are perfect definitely better than expected.
- Did not come with installation hardware or cap for cut-out (which I knew)


Installation:

- The flange did not line up with the holes on my stock turbo Solution: Ream out all holes a good bit. READ ON
- Since I had to supply my own hardware I chose round internal hex head M8x1.25 thread 1.25" long these were too long so I shorten them to inch and an eighth (thread)
- With the now shorter bolts two of the four would not even go into the holes in the flange, due to clearance with the pipe itself. Solution: ballpene hammer (bottom and top holes)
- Once installed Down Pipe does not hit anything Very good fit.
- Installed cut out, it did not want to line up with my Hooker cat back. I just used good ole elbow grease and started one at a time tightening untill I could start the next one. It worked out ok.
- I was lucky to be working at my friends shop so he had a spare turbine housing laying around. I notice one very important thing

Those of you with big turbos, check the clearance from the outlet of the turbine to the down pipe flange. This one had at least an eighth inch sticking out into the path of the exhaust. I feel this would be a very easy fix, just use a die grinder to get rid of the lip. I am not sure if this is an issue with smaller turbos, I am going to check, by then I just wanted to get done.

So before you start:

-Ream out all four holes
-check bolt to pipe clearance
-If you have an extra housing, bolt it to the DP and check for obstruction
-Be prepared to fight the cut out

All in all I couldn't be happier now that it is on. Stock turbo spools like F**king lightning, its insane how much difference from the stock down pipe elbow to this giant thing.

I'm just waiting for the cap and I'll be totally satisfied. If your willing to work with this pipe then it is totally worth the price. I love it. My car now breaks traction at 40mph, I have a stock turbo, stock intercooler, and 009s.

Thanks for the info. I have one sitting next to me on the floor waiting for enough freetime to test-fit it. I had already noticed that it looked like some of the bolt holes are so close the the tubing that it would be impossible to even get a bolt in there.

Not sure what you mean about checking the clearance between the turbine outlet and the DP flange though??

Oh well the main thing is that the pipe itself fits and it's good to hear that you got it in. For $100-150 less than what other vendors want for just a 3" pipe, can't argue about having to do minor work like enlarging the bolt holes.

I should have snapped a pic, but when I bolted the DP to the spare turbo housing, I looked through the housing into the down pipe. As if I was the turbine wheel. and I noticed that there was some of the DP flange sticking into path of the exhaust, thus causing a restriction. Now this was a housing off a the biggest turbo made with a stock garret housing. (can't remember the number) Maybe 60 something Q-trim. This particular housing was very thin on one side to clear the larger turbine wheel. I dont think this will be a problem for smaller housings. Hope this explains it.

I'm excited to install mine but first I think I'm going to get it set-up for a wideband sensor and have it ceramic coated (even though the stainless is prettier).

Yea I'm gonna do that too, I just wanted a better time slip before snow flies. I'm going for 12 Os maybe 11s with a stock turbo, Stock intercooler, 009s, and 2800 stall. I was at 12.92 @105.9x pig rich with a horrible 60 foot and a stock elbow with a Kirban 3".

Yeah that's also the set-up I have at the moment, a ported stock elbow with the Kirban pipe. Can't wait to finally step up to a real downpipe!

You are gonna love it!!! My turbo spools like F***ing Lightning. I cant get traction if I wanted it. And Im running Nitto drag 315/35/17s.

Its the truth, my car is so much fun with this setup. The car is an animal, now I'm not saying it is some track star, but for a street car, woo wee. Honestly traction is now a big issue for me, I leave 80 foot long posi marks everyware (10 inches wide too!!!)

well, are those nitto drags made from racing compound, or a touch harder for street. Tell me your exact model number, I want to look em up. And hows your posi unit doin. is it a 100%? how do you launch?

Are those Poston's headers on your car? Can you attribute any of the fitment issues, pro's/con's, to the headers positioning the turbo slightly different compared to stock headers?

I have the 555drag extremes on, and my posi is great. They are decent at the track, I had poopy 60s before so traction wasn't an issue. I went to the track today and it spun into drive, but, no one was hooking. I only got one run in and I got a 2.0 60 and 13.3@102 spinning and getting squirrelly. Then it rained and they called it.

As far at times, my local drag strip closed for the year yesterday. I got one run in and it was terrible track conditions. It went 13.3@102 spinning like crazy. As for the street, It's awesome spools like crazy. You will love it!!

It is Stainless right? It doesn't specify on their website

The pipe is stainless, and the flange is steel. I don't think any stainless down pipe has a stainless flange?
