I talked to the previous owner of my GN about my spark knock problem, and he told me to turn up the fuel pressure. How exactly do I do that?
Also, whats a good book to buy about GN Repair. I have the Chiltons, but it is all but worthless. Any suggestions?

Knock can't always be eliminated by richening up the mixture. At some point you may need more octane.

What scan tool numbers are you seeing..?

What boost, octane, mods, etc are done?

I'm not seeing any Scan Code numbers, because I don't have a scan tool. I just got the car, and it started knocking about a week after I bought it. I'm buying one as soon as I get paid.

Boost wise, I'm running about 15 psi. Octane was 93, however it was a no name gas station that I stopped at because I was nearly out of gas. Can anyone recommend good gas to use with a GN? I used to use Citgo with my T-Type with no problems, but they don't seem to have Citgo's down here.

Modswise: Hotwired Walbro 307 Fuel Pump, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, prenear everything else mechanical is stock.

I think that some good gas with an Octane Booster and upping the mixture would help. Does that sound good?

Avoid octane boosters as they are practically worthless. Call around and find a high performance shop that sell Race gas. Buy 5 gallons worth (they should have some for about $5 a gallon, maybe less, leaded gas will be OK if youv'e gutted the cat or run a test pipe) Add one gallon to a tank of 93 and your knock should go away. At 5$ - the cost of a gallon of 93 gas, race gas is one of the best octane boosters you can buy.

Look into a Thrasher 93 chip. With a thrasher you set your FP to 45 psi and leave it alone. Playing with the FP is not something for newbies and is NOT a substitute for octane. When I see people playing with there fuel pressure trying to make there cars run properly, I am sometimes overcome with the urge to throw their allen wrench over the track fence.

How do you know its knocking without a scan tool? Can you hear the knock? Turn down the boost until you know exactly what is going on

I found out that it was knocking from another GN Owner. I raced him, and he told me to check my Spark Knock, NOW! SO i haven't driven the car since, to avoid screwing something up. I know how to turn the boost down though, so I will do that in the time being, until I can try the Race Gas.
THanks,
Shane

Shane, I'm in Summerville & I'd be more than happy to help you out if I can.:)

I have a scantool. Let me know & we'll hook up. I'm off the next two days.

What a Godsend!
Thanks a million.... but I can't during the week. I'm not in Charleston, I'm actually in Goose Creek on the Naval Weapons Station. I don't have enough time to wrench this week, but some other time would be great, if just to pick your brain.
Thank you though. If you want to meet sometime to talk cars, email me (LowDwnDirtyShane@Hotmail.com), and we can meet somewhere. I've got a million questions, and I'm a quick learner!
