Went to the local dragstrip lastnight and met up with a new camaro. He's shooting a 150 shot of nitrous as soon as he gets out of the hole good. I had to come out about 2300 rpm to keep from spinning(street tires). We were dead even until about the 900' mark and then he'd pull me, out running me about a fender. We done this very exact thing about 4 times. Some of my times vs his: GN 1.867 60' 8.28 83.958 Cam 1.938 8.344 87.248 win, GN 1.857 8.32 83.639 Cam 1.959 8.383 85.659 win
Best time GN made 1.843 8.252 at 83.942
As you can see, he's killing me on the other end. Any suggestions on getting some more mph. I was running 19lbs boost with 47lbs static fuel pressure win I run the 8.25. Still have stock Int. and turbo.

benson drag strip?

if you go to benson strip let me know. i ussually go down there every thursday. was the camaro you were racing burgandy?
let me know man maybe we can meet up down there

Camaro owner was full of it...

By “new” Camaro, I’m assuming you mean an LS1, correct? Even if the LS1 is totally stock + a 150 shot he’d be doing MUCH MUCH better in the 1/8 than 8.3s @85/87 mph. He must have been BSing you about the spray. I run totally N/A and I have a stock motor with bolt-ons only and a stall converter and I’ve run a best 1/8 mile of 8.0 @86+, and he should be making at least 100 horse more than me with a 150 shot.

Either he really, and I mean really didn’t know how to drive, or he was full of it about the juice. He may have spray, but he sure wasn’t using it that night. Hell, even if he didn’t know how to launch worth a **** he should still get a mph in the 94/95 range or better with a 150 shot, even if all else down to the muffler was stock.

lost races

WS6 - you're right....the times do seem low. oh well.

ApullinV6 - try bumping up your fuel pressure (will need adjustable regulator) and boost (adjustable wastegate rod) a little more and if you have the funds, invest in a set of slicks. the race is won at the line. work on launch and reaction time. later...
:D

ApullinV6,
If I am reading it right, in the first race you ran an 8.28 to his 8.34. In the second race you ran a 8.32 to his 8.38. Well...like Austin Coil keeps telling John Force.."E.T wins races...not MPH!" If I ran a 8.25 at a 100MPH and you ran a 8.24 at 85MPH, you will beat me as long as our Reaction times are identical. It's ET that counts....not MPH. And Definitely work on the Reaction times...we cant have any Turbo Regals getting beat by a lowly Camaro!
:D

Yes, this camaro was a LS1 and it did have a 150 shot. He has run a best of 8.04 at Kinston but New Bern's track doesn't have as good of traction. Plus, we were both on street tires. His being factory and mine being Firestone Firehawks. I WILL own some slicks and We'll be in the 7's. I was also cutting fairly good lights being anywhere between .008 to a sleepy .186.

NOSjohnWE4 I know that my MPH was down, what can I do to get it up. I have an adj. wastegate and fuel press. reg., had it on 47lbs. Thanks for the replys.

To HOTAIR84 , this car is a sandstone color?

MPH

Apullin,

your MPH might be down due to spinning on those street tires. i don't know anyone who gets a good 60foot or MPH...or anything on street tires for that matter. a good hook will launch u nicely and get you some respectable MPH numbers. what convertor are u running? later...

NOSjohnWE4, I'm still running a stock converter. The only thing thats been done to the drive train, is a shift kit and a drive shaft loop. I would really love to up grade to a different conv. though.

Mods. in the future: install -S-10 manual brakes for
more holding power.
converter ?
up-grade turbo, ta 49
* new valve springs, a 1st *

Hey man, me and some of my boys go down there to your track sometimes. We plan on running my friend's bone stock 87 GN Thursday. We have been down there, but only one of my boys have run their car. I take mine, but since it leaks oil and has a bad tranny..still.. I can't run it. If we go this week we'll either be in his stock 87 or my car with LETHALGN plates on the back. Good to know we finally have another GN to hang with down there.. BTW, do ya happen to know a guy named Vernon Swindell a.k.a. Turbo1dr? He's a very knowledgable guy when it comes to these cars. He has a gold 78 Malibu with a GN engine runnin mid 6's.

Mid 6's???

Is that in the quarter or the 1/8th? If that's in the quarter than that's faster than Duttweiler's old car:eek:

Me and a friend are planning on going. We just put a new set of injectors and a hot wire kit in his car. Ordered a Jay Carter chip also, We're hoping it will be her by then. We want to see what his will do now.
Oh yea, I know Vernon. Good guy and he knows his turbo V6's too. I just talked to him the other day and he said something about going out there thurs. I'll e-mail him and tell him. Maybe we can get something going with all the Mustangs out there.
86brick... That is in the 1/8 mile.. 6.50's:cool:

Cool. I just talked to my boy and he's gonna run his bone stock 87 to see what kind of times he can get with it. I'm not sure if we'll bring both mine and his. I've been trying to get in touch with Vernon to do a li'l something with my car but he's a hard guy to reach. We'll see ya out there around 7 or so. BTW, it shouldn't be too much of a contest with the Stang crowd...I've seen the times most of them run...

He still wasn't spraying...

ApullinV6…I hate to tell you this, but with mid-80 MPH traps, that Camaro WAS NOT spraying a 150 shot. I don’t care what he said, I’ve owned, raced, and built enough F-bodies (including more than one LS1) to know that stock tires or not, a bone stock LS1 + 150 shot = mid-90 MPH traps in the 1/8, period.

Maybe it was an LT1 Camaro? Was it a 6-speed? Maybe he was shifting at 4500rpm!

Numero UNO: Loose the flowmasters. Unless you are dumping, its costing you mph.

#2: Use a race chip like a T108 and good gas (turn FP down to 45, too)

#3: Lock the converter if you are not.

The above changes should net 88-89 mph at similar boost levels as you are running now.

RPM WS6 i was there i saw the bottle in trunk,if it was on i don't know but i did see him purge it. I do not know if it is a ls1
or not but it is a 2000 z28. I know it makes a differance wet or dry,he had a dry system, two briaded lines going into the air
filter box. just trying to give more info.

Wet or dry, a 150 shot is a 150 shot. If it was a 2000, than it was an LS1. The only explanation then (if he did spray) is that he was short shifting by about 1000 or more rpm for his traps to be down about 10 mph. I’ve only got minor bolt-ons (no heads/cam work) and NO spray or FI, and I’m trapping about 86 in the 1/8, and a Z28 weights quite a bit less than me! He must have been a TERRIBLE driver!

The guy in the camaro cut 1.93 60' on street tires, thats not bad driving in my opinion. Either he didnt spray or it was real cold out and he had no bottle pressure. My buudies stock 98LS1 traps at 85 and runs 8.2's with nittos and a stall(not stock).

Not matter what, you did a nice job of driving yourself, congrats on the runs. Now get some tires.

For thoughs of you that like camaros, this camaro finally got it straight. There was some ? about this camaro having nitrous because he wasn't pulling better times. Well he finally ran a 7.99 thurs. night. Come to find out he was getting air in the line.
