Ok me and my brother have been goin at it for about three hours now abuot who would win on a road course-Grand National or the Subaru impreza(1998 2door N/A version). I believe that the lack of straight line speed and the eversteer ov the AWD system would proove too much for the lil japanese car to handle. The RWD and the posi is a much better setup for roadracing IMO. Let me here what you think guys, I'm just a youngin. :)

I have done a few open track events with my GN. I have a little seat time, okay I have about 20 hours seat time in my GN alone and at that time about the only pure stock or mildly modified cars that could really kick my a$$ were the Viper and an ocassional turbo'd Porsche. I have turned in faster lap times than an SCCA American Sedan driver driving a bone stock 93 Cobra R not to mention lesser Vettes and imports with more experienced professional drivers. My car isn't stock(best 1/4 11.8@116) but if you eliminate the driver the Subie doesn't stand a chance in the corners or the straights. IMO even a newer WRX with or without STI would have a tough time walking away from a mildly modified GN. Bone stock GN that would be a different story.

In a parking lot autocross, the Subaru would win. On an honest, actual race course, the suburu wouldn't stand a chance.

thats what I keep telling him, but I guess the new kids forgot about how well some of the older cars handle. To them the are all straight line rockets witht the turning capacity of an ocean liner.

Stock, with tiny 215/65's, a T/R did .82 on the skid pad. A stock impreza wouldn't do much better.

AWD is advantage only when you have too much HP for a given track. I can't think of many tracks where an impreza would have "too much HP", other than a slick parking lot autocross.

I never had a problem when my GN was stock and running POS Eagle GT's.
Just by the classifaction system of the SCCA an Imprezza would be slower than a GN other wise it would be: 1- in the same class or: 2-in a better class(i.e. BMW 3-series, Corvette, etc)

Just check the results of any autocrosses or Solo2 events in your area.
A stock GN or any V-8 G-body or F-body runs in FS
Any stock Imprezza will be in HS
And for example a BMW 3-series is in BS and 84-96 Vette is in AS.
The higher the letter the slower it is.

Again you have to take the driver out of the equation.
