So I'm new to the external wastegate world and I'd like some help before I start the car and try to get things sorted out. From what I've read, I want to electronically plug in the factory wastegate solenoid but do NOT connect any vacuum line to it. My questions are now, what lines go where and can I just tap into any vac lines on the engine or are there certain ones to use?

I do not have a boost controller yet, but will be getting one soon. I'd just like to get it out and make sure the front cover issues are solved before I throw more at it. Any suggestions on those would be great to.

External gates are usually set up tuner style.
I have never run an external gate with stock solenoid.
Just make sure you have the wastegate turned down all the way before your first hit.

Here is an old school picture I did years ago that shows the basic layout of the line routing when using a boost control regulator valve.

You are correct, leave the electrical plug, connected to the wastegate solenoid, but don't have any hoses routed to it.

With the boost regulator valve closed all the way, the boost should get very close to your wastegate spring rate. Then to raise the boost, I would typically find a nice straight stretch of highway or at the dragstrip and go WOT in 3rd. Slowly start opening the valve until you reach your target boost number. Slowly open the valve, don't just start cranking it open as fast as possible as that can lead to an over boost condition. Once you reach your target, lock the knob and you're good to go. This would be the method if you mount the boost control regulator valve inside the center console.

Hope this helps.

Patrick, if I'm going to run this without a boost controller for a few days just to get it running and check for oil leaks, then how would I hook the lines up?

If you are running a Turbo Tweak chip you can completely remove the stock wastegate solenoid from the car. Just tape up the connector and tuck it under the intake manifold. Won't throw any codes, not sure about other chips but works for me. Grab an extra regular valve cover bolt and you can replace the one that the solenoid mounts to so it doesn't look like there was anything there before.:)

If you just run a hose from the turbo compressor fitting to the lower port of the external wastegate it theoritically will boost to whatever your spring pressure is.

Mark, thanks! That was what I had planned on doing. I just hope your MAF pipe gets here by Saturday so we can terrorize the neighborhood.
