i have, works great! just don't go to far on the stock bottom end like i did! i went 6.8's@101 in the 1/8th mile!

Jack Cotton ran this combo back in the late 90's. I remember him going high 120's and maybe 130 mph.

Bison, kinda makes you feel that bigger cams don't really do much except move the powerband up a bit huh?

Yeah. Thats what they do but you dont have to torture the engine as much either when built around a bigger cam though. I like my engines a little over 9.0:1 and a cam that will make power to about 6000 rpm (anything around 212 degrees duration works well). This way your not driving through the converter as bad up top and not running the car out of gear as easy. Your giving up some torque but increasing the hp a bunch and the higher rpm range allows the shift drop rpm to better compliment the combo. It seems a lot easier and reliable these days to rev a little more and keep the boost around 25 psi. The higher static compression takes care of the bigger cams potential maladies. The engines make a ton of power and are very reliable this way. With a stock cam you would be blowing like hell to make the mph the bigger cammed engine would at much less boost even if the same heads are used and converter selection would be even harder with the torque you would be throwing at it.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind big heads and the stock cam.
The stock cam is not magic, but neither are the hot cam of the week grinds.
It is all about the combination. For a street car with small tires you really don't need or want that much tq down that low. If you don't want to spin the motor high you can pick one of several grinds. I think you would be very happy with a 206 roller grind that does not have the big duration but allows those nice heads to breath with some additonal lift.

BTW-may I please have a hand me down set of heads?

Bison, have you run your combo down the track? Nice combo. ;)

John, we need to hook up! So many parts, so little time.....
