OK - I will let you guys know. I am checking on materials/pricing and the feasibility of doing more of these as my spare time is spread pretty thin these days. Thanks for the compliments as well as the renewed interest!

OK folks - here's the deal. I'm willing to give this a try again but I want people to understand that this is NOT easy by any stretch of the imagination. While it's not brain surgery, it is very labor intensive and does require modifying the inside of the dash structure as well as a good deal of wiring. The wiring becomes even more involved if you are using a stock ECM as a new VSS has to be integrated in order for the computer to be able to read speed for lockup, cruise, etc. My modifications don't hack the stock core support any more than necessary and it can be returned to stock if desired. I do recommend getting a used trim bezel to modify if you think you may ever go back to stock. I don't have a lot of spare time these days so if you want me to do a complete dash, it will be have to be on a first come, first serve basis assuming the interest is there. Complete dashes will require you to supply me with a trim bezel, core support, and of course the gauges. Since I don't want to anger the powers that govern this board, PM me for pricing.

Looks nice, would be cool if someone made a new wiring harness to adapt it all over.

Thanks for those of you who have contacted me about doing these. We are trying to see how many folks are SERIOUS about doing this. I'm not in the dash building business and I'm only doing this to help some brothers out. You can PM me for pricing. I'm only going to do this once so if you want in you need to let me know.

Thx

Auto Meter "Cobalt" or "C2" gauges

"bent6", could you do a dash using Auto Meter's "Cobalt" or "C2" series gauges? I'd like a tach, speedo, fuel level, water temp, oil pressure, and boost.
-I would also have liked a Casper knock gauge or an air/fuel ratio gauge, but I don't know if there's a way to change the lighting to match the "Cobalt" gauges...
-Also, can you leave the "idiot lights functional?...Maybe the wiring would be less complicated and still have a more factory looking GNX-dash??

Thanks,

Claude.:)

Why would you want idiot lights when you have gauges anyway? Trying to keep the stock idiot lights would only complicate the wiring even more. I used the stock idiot light wiring for the sending units so everything stays real clean under the hood - just change the sending units. You can use any brand/type of gauge you want as long as they are 2 1/16 for the small ones and 3 3/8 for the large ones.

Nothing wrong with idiot lights....they just need to come on a little sooner than right when the engine is having problems.

OK - here's the deal. What you see is what I am willing to offer. I'm sorry but I don't have the time to re-engineer this for all different sorts of gauge layouts, stock idiot lights, etc. You are welcome to get a blank plate and get creative if you want to try something different.

You can get a blank plate or you can get the 7-gauge layout like mine with the holes pre-drilled. I will also do a complete pre-wired dash on a first come first served basis - you will need to provide me with the gauges and your stock core support.

I am going to give everyone interested until Feb 28th to get in on this. I have to pay for the materials so I will need a 50% deposit before fabrication and the balance before shipping. I can take PayPal or money orders. I have responded to those of you who have PM'd me for pricing - please let me know if I missed anyone. We should be looking for a tentative ship date of mid-March on the plates - the complete pre-wired dashes will depend on how many and who gets in first as these will have to be done in my spare time.

I'm already set with a Performance Instruments version I got a few weeks ago but if I didn't have it I'd certainly get your setup......I like the simple/clean "surface mount" look of it. I just wanted to say that I think it is cool that you are offering it and I hope your transactions go smoothly. Maybe it will work out well enough that you can offer them on a semi-regular basis or turn it into a small side business. Good luck!

Thanks for the compliments. Just out of curiosity, did you buy your Perf Inst version used or something? The guy who was Perf Inst supposedly has quit doing them or has just disappeared. He certainly made a nice piece when he was doing them.

Just out of curiousity, how much would a black or identically holed gauge panel be raw?

Thanks,

I bought one in new condition from someone who bought it from Performance Instruments and never got around to installing it so, essentially, it is "new" with everything but a temperature sender included for installation. It is certainly a nice unit (or I wouldn't have bought it for as much as I did) but I probably would have gone with your setup had it been available at the time.....I'd prefer a full size tach and "Ultralite" series gauges.

Here's the one I picked up.......
