I'm trying to reduce underhood temps. I'm pondering the idea of
installing GNX vents. Do they work?

temps

If you modify the inside where the relays are(relocate them) allowing the air easy access to the vents(duct ) you will feel the heat come out the vents with the fan on sitting still. The more heat out the more cool comes in:cool:

Are there REAL vents available?

Are there REAL ''GNX'' vents available complete with the ducting to go through the inner fender ? I would be interested in getting some!...
The only ones I've seen are appearance items only as they do not go all the way through the inner fender part, thus not lettiing heat come out...:(

Claude :)

Remove the weather stripping at the back of the hood above the firewall, it just slides right off and creates a huge passageway for underhood heat to escape...but its not recommended to do this if you drive in the rain alot because water can drip down on the coil pack connections.

Yea, I'm not looking for show...Functional. I thought that I would
have to make the hole and that was it. Thanks for the info.
I might try removing the weatherstrip, I don't drive in the rain
very often.

I believe Poston's has the GNX vent assembly. The last time I checked they did anyways. It had all the pieces the GNXs came with. You do have to cut the holes in both inner and outer fenders. You also have to relocate the sensors. It seems like alot of work. The hole in the inner fender looks rather small though. I had always wanted to add the GNX louvers to my car but make the hole in the inner fender alot bigger than the real GNX came with. I'm still debating on the louvers after hearing so many bad things about them. I've read everything from them blowing off going down the road to them melting in the hot sun.

I was just about to say the same thing, It made a noticable difference on my brothers hot air.

Be interesting should we get a hood that
a. reduces under hood temp
b. helps stabilize front end lift at speed
c. lighter than OEM
d. stronger than OEM
e. I'm dreaming?

Remove the half of the weather strip that is on the passenger side only.

Yes, to some degree. The biggie is barrier coating the headers/ downpipe. I couldn't believe the difference when I installed the Poston Headers.

My exhaust is jet coated in and out, i.e stock headers, 3" THDP, and crossover.

The problem with removing the rear weatherstrip is that if you get an exhaust leak it can go into your A/C intake and into your cabin. NOT a good idea. Perhaps the passenger side only idea is a good one.

But the AC intake is on the PS??
I hardly use my AC, but I have noticed when I had a valvecover leak that dripped on the header the smoke was sometimes noticable in the cabin if the sun light came in just right to see it, you could definitely smell it.

I wrapped the entire DP with heat wrap, its cool to the touch even after a high psi blast and keeps temps down a whole lot. But if you use it, only use it on the DP where no oil can drip onto it from the VC, otherwise you could have a fire. I used black heat wrap so it doesn't look all that bad on there compared to that brown/tan stuff.

Then I meant driver's side...I forgot which side the intake was on. Personally, that gasket is there for a reason and I won't be removing it. I'd sooner add the functional GNX vents.

Good call on the header wrap. Better call on no oil leak. :)

weatherstrip

DO NOT pull the weatherstrip on the drivers side of the hood, and little if any on the pass side!
Going down the road at speed, if a hose or cooler line etc. blows, your windshield is covered, visibility is 0, your blind @ 100+ mph
Not good....

Go with pulling the weatherstripping, leave the part in front of the AC intake on when your going to be using the AC. Alot easier than chopping holes in your fenders!

I haven't had the weatherstripping on my car for at least 4 or 5 years. Is it smart, maybe not, but it works.
