marred......

you have only half the story, so please don't show your ignorance by sticking up for someone who has had problems with every single vendor here,
come on , look at his history,
I do not , or will not let anyone around when I do motor work,
nothing to hide, just concentration on what I'm doing.
I can't or won't speak for anyone on this forum, but in looking at the problems certain people have, I wouldn't touch anything of his.
I'm sure there are others that feel the same way.
your always sticking up for him, but in the eyes of alot of us, YOUR WRONG!!!
I'm not knocking you, just pick your battles wisely.
I wish him good luck, but he has burned his bridges, and now is finding it difficult to get things done the way he wants.
please drop it, and let move on.

so i guess im wrong when i cut middle men out right? im wrong cuz i chose to do my own work? i chose to back him up for one reason BECAUSE HE HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG TO THE ENGINE BUILDER BUT BE PATIENT... answer me this cruz.....lets say you go into to zimmermans shop and have him build you a 10sec motor you spend well over 7k on it, you run it for 800 miles then it starts to run like sh!t, does it make you and a$$hole to take the car back and point the mistakes that were made by the engine builder? does it make you and a$$hole when you want your engine that you just paid 7k done right?
thats the only reason why he got kicked out cuz he pointed out the wrong mistakes that were made its that simple

So if I walk into your shop and drop well over 3k in work drive off your lot and for some odd reason something gives out that YOU just replaced its my fault?? I would understand if he did the work and nothing was coming along right but he took it to a very reputable shop and still has nothing to show for and then gets kicked out for being a a$$hole...come lets get real here you
in your perfect world & If that was really the case no I wouldn't condone it & never have. But lets hear their side of the story & explain on how I wronged him to treat me that way. Harold is no saint.First off I would fix the car right like I did for him & then kick him out for being an a$$hole like I also did..I really don't know what happens at the other shops & can only go by my own experience. I also find it odd that you used to defend them & now it's me doing it. 21 years ago when I got involved with these cars. I had the same luck with getting along with some well known Buick guru's that I tried to do business with & lost thousands & got jerked off. ( Wouldn't I love to name name's the list is long ).So I decided the best revenge was to learn how to do it myself & proceeded to do exactly that & here I sit today with memories of how pissed I was & trying to do right by the folks that come to me for help. It's smart to keep some professional separation between yourself & the people that you intend to do business with. To keep things from getting ugly. Not a whole lot of people can maintain that sort of relationship & wind up staying friends. That's always been the hard part for me.I get myself involved with others problems & always seems to work against me. It's human nature to expect more than can be given & still make a profit. The hot rod business is difficult from that perspective because of the emotional ties people have with their hobby cars & Harold's case is an extreme example.Rest to sure where ever he goes drama is sure to follow. So I guess it's good luck Jeff!

their is another side to the story

When did Harold become an expert???????
when someones inabliity or lack of knowledge causes problems, why should a vendor be liable ( no I don't mean the tensioner)
800mi???, if a problem was going to arise, it would show up in the first few hundred miles, when you alter the tune or setup, then the results are YOUR responsibility, especially when you race the car,and run high boost levels.
I have spent more on motors than you have on cars! am I bragging, NO,I'm complaining, I do my homework, before I let my mouth over load my ability.
no so in the case of Harold, AND YOU!
I do alot of my own work, but still use vendors from this board. its your choice, but if you don't have a clue as to whats going on, then stop bashing the poeple that do! I don't see you developing hi perf parts, and stepping up to produce them, and market them, and no one forces you to buy them.
most of your posts seem to have an attitude, well expect that attitude right back at you! you normally get, what you give!
Have a great day!

Wow. Interesting.

Some things just never change.

Very insightful comment, Scott.

With Jeff being a little green dealing with different 'types' of customers, I can only hope he doesn't learn a hard lesson from this experience. Hopefully the other party has learned a little about dealing with people from his own past experiences too.

Over time and experience, you learn to weigh a situation and just say, "No thanks, lifes too short".

A question that keeps bugging me. If this fellow knows so much about how to build a high performance BUICK V6, why doesn't he build it himself?

I get the sense that this guy wants to pay someone to build his engine so that he can later critique the job and bring someone down. Yes. Unfortunately, there are people like that. The 'loud critic' that's too scared to do it himself and prove to others that he also can make a mistake.

And the other side of the story.... They're are some "people" who have exhausted/ pissed off the ENTIRE list of local vendors due to their own incompetence/issues and have now sourced out a competent board member to do the work. I hope this person does not get screwed the same way the MORE than accomodating vendors have been to this individual in the past. I'd be extremely cautious and pray there isn't a reoccurance of the same situation and ruin someone's credibility.

Scott Wile

no dought about that! I only need to get screwed once and I'm done, off to try and give it a shot on my own with friends (even if it takes 2 years lol). I may be stupid but I am not retarded, if anyone has a vendor problem I think I have learned to take it for what it is and move on. It only takes a few good F'ups and you should never go back. Everyone makes mistakes, but how that person deals with mistakes and errors creates his character. I think everyone needs some respect, even if a vendor does a customer wrong, it doesn't mean you have to degrade yourself in the hopes of gaining something you couldn't otherwise gain by being polite.

"just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character"
best line in pulp fiction, period!

vendor/customer relations are pretty simple, they're just like a marriage IMHO; communication is the key to unlock all potential.

One of the circumstances where I draw the line is when a customer wants to cut parts off my parts list to make the job cheaper. I don't put parts on the list unless it's necessary to make the job live. If that can't be understood, I quickly move on.

all of this discussion, and nobody has stop'd and asked them selves,,,, Who is itsa6?

good job guys.
