I go to start up everything is ok temp climbs normally 170-171 then i go back hours later start up again and temp passes 180 causing my resivor to overflow then after i rev it drops back down to 170 anyone have any idea its been twice already this happens.

160 stat new
raditor clean checked ok
dual fans
water

Are you losing any coolant other than when it comes out the overflow? Sounds almost like it could be air locking or cavitating at the pump.

no coolant lost but the water that comes out the overflow but what do mean by air locking & cavitating.

when was the last time you changed the water? did you bleed it? you could have a lot of air in the system causing the pump to cavitate. also is the correct pressure cap on the radiator?

the pump could be going out. you might check the clearance on the impeller. if the clearance is bad you would have bad flow or cavitation.

Cavitation is when the impeller is turning but there is enough air or enough clearance that it really doesn't push the water like it is supposed to. It just sort of beats it up, sort of like a blender  .

180 degrees isn't enough to boil. Even pure water boils at 212, and when you add anti-freeze, it won't boil until much hotter.

You probably have a bad radiator cap.

Blown head gasket will pressurize the system. Typical Cometic stuff when they get tweaked. Car will run for half an hour then start to overheat. Once that happens, pull the plugs and take a look.

Hope it aint.. but been there done that

16 LBS PRESSURE CAP IS THAT O.K HOW CAN I CHECK THE CLEARANCE ITS FUNNY BECAUSE ONCE I REV THE MOTOR AT IDLE IT DROPS DOWN.

that is what im scared of a head gasket just done them even called Jason at RJC and told me the same about head gasket building pressure but then again never seen knock it just started doing it and only at times and like i said once i rev the motor needle drops down i can even go for a drive without it overheating so can it still be a head gasket.

your right about 180 isn't enough to over boil that is why i have a bad feeling some where it could be the head gasket that is why i called you last time John asking you how do you find out if the knock senser is working if you recall, i'll try changing the radiator cap.

almost forgot would it matter if my overflow bottle is laying down in front of the battery that is where its mounted.

that makes sense not pushing the water.
