Governor Nylon Screw mod

If I put a 8/32 by 1/4 long nylon screw in the governor to secure the spring will this alter shift points??

not noticeable, if you are concerned you can take the governor apart and weight light weigh before and after,
I think they weigh around .2 grams.

Is a 1/4 inch long the correct length to use? I am hoping to have tranny apart this weekend!

plenty I think anything the helps the spring stay in place is a plus.

1/4" should work. You don't want it to back out and you don't want it too long and restrict the weight movement.
I drilled a little hole and tapped the threads. Used some locktite on the screw to keep it in there.
