i bought a gray knock detector that doesnt have a name on it just leds it is about the size of a pack of cigarettes it records knock but every time it sees knock it just adds on to the knock it got the first time it takes 10 seconds to reset has anyone had this problem before

I thought all LED knock detectors were cumulative until they hit reset ie. timed out.

I have had the gray one (Kenne-Bell perhaps?) in my car for 16 years now.

Sounds like it's working normally to me?

I think it's a bit more sensitive than the Caspers units, I get about 3/4 of the lights lit up before any beeps out of the Caspers audible unit.

Just for reference.

salvage do u have any pics of the one u are using and what i was trying to explain was lets say if i start up the car i get one light then i put the car in gear i get 3 lights and if the car shifts hard i get 5 lights the if i wait 10 seconds i goes back to the 1 green light is it supposed to do this

If all those things you mentioned you do happen within 10-15 seconds then yes it will add up.

My car rarely will show any lights when starting, GN does sometimes with Caspers gauge which is kinda odd, but anyway never has shown any KR or lights when the car is put into gear.

You may have something hitting big time in the car causing it to go off.

Sounds like it's doing it's job, I will search for a picture, mine has "water" clear small sized LED's on it 10 I believe in a row and the large green LED left side.

ok salvage it is the same one that i have how do u know when u are getting serious detonation with the lights and do u have a button to reset the lights because it holds them for 10 seconds did u get instructions with yours when u got it

How do you wire this thing?

I got one of these with my GN I bought it and have yet to reinstall it.

I'm sure there were instructions but they're long gone.

It's been wedged in that spot inside my WE4 for 16 years at least now.

I only think about it when I see lots of red lights.

Caspers audible gauge is what I use for racing in both cars along with direct scan and the scanmaster.

When I was running the Kenne Bell chip it lit up a lot more with transitional knock and shift knock at 17-18psi. boost that chip ran on pump gas.

I don't look at it much anymore with the alky flowing well. :)

Only heard my car knock badly once at the track and it was full red and the Caspers audible was screaming too.

Still using the original headgaskets but not really using that detector for tuning anything seriously anymore.

I would say it's a bit more sensitive than other scan tools but if you have a scanmaster you may want to try to correlate the lights to that device, although I didn't have much luck doing that with Caspers LED gauge and the scanmaster on my GN most likely to timing issues with a real time gauge and the ALDL data stream.

I would check out what's causing it to go off when starting and shifting into gear first.
