I was having problems with my shift points so I looked at the governor and it was yellow with 2 large weights and 2 springs, instead of orange with 2 small weights and 1 spring.
So I switched it with the governor from a spare BRF trans I have.
This governor has 2 small weights and 1 spring, and it fixed my shifting problems, but it is green.
Has anyone seen a green one before?

Also, the mph readout on my scanmaster is lower than before.
Does the governor drive the speedometer?
Do different governors have different numbers of teeth?

Thanks.

yes, the green i believe is 10 teeth and for a monte ss "373 gears"
the orange gear is 11 and for a gn gear for "3.42"

i actually have a green one in mine because i couldnt find a orange one, so i changed the small gear from 30 teeth to 28 and it reads about 5mph slow where it used to be about 10
if you cant find a orange gear then change the small one to a 27 if you can find one and it will get you real close

this is all based on the assumption that you have 3.42 gears.
hope this helps

Gears

I actually have 3:08 gears in my Impala which weighs around 4000 pounds. I was actually thinking of going to 3:73 or 4:10 gears instead of 3:42 to help get my car moving.

What are your shift points?
Are they the same with the green governor as with the orange one?
I don't have a tach hooked up yet and the shift points felt a little high.

Thanks.

mine is modified and all trans vary once they have work done. there is a formula to change the shiftpoints by taking weight on and off the small weight. there are also different weights so depending on what each one weighs you can change them to achieve different shift points. first put a tach on it and see where its shifting.

Change the gear to the yellow one, if that gave you the correct speedo reading you'll be good to go. The gears are interchangeable.

ACTUALLY I CALCULATED A WHITE 13 TOOTH GOVERNOR GEAR AND A 29 DRIVEN GEAR FOR A 3.08 WITH A 28" TALL TIRE AND A 30 DRIVEN GEAR IF ITS A 27" TIRE.

IVE NEVER SEEN A YELLOW GOVERNOR GEAR FOR A 200/4R.

Sometimes heat and the fluid can discolor the original gear color. The best way of determining what gear it is, is to count the teeth on the large diameter(drive gear). This number is the "drive teeth" number. The gear which resides in the sleeve to which the speedo cable attaches(driven gear), has a specific number of teeth known as the "Driven teeth"

Once you know this info you can acurrately determine what gear combination you require for your gear ratio and rear tire diameter.

TCI has a handy calculator which will help you determine the diameter of your tires, as well as the proper combinaton of gears.

White

I counted the teeth on the "yellow" gear and it has 13, which according to TCI is white, which I suppose is possible. That means with the 3:08 gears and 26" tires I need a white 31 tooth driven gear.
Thanks for the help.
