OK, to clear up a few items and get everone on the same page, I own the car now that Marc posted the pictures from. He installed the Grooms engine and then sold the car to someone else in New York in January of this year. I bought the car from that guy in May of this year. I too was wondering why they bored it out so much, .040 over seems like overkill, unless the block was that bad. Let's just say I'm having some troubles right now with the engine, not sure if they are Grooms related problems or not but the engine has less than 3-4k on it and I'm praying it's not serious. I posted the problem in another thread related to missing coolant and a possible blown head gasket........
Save your money and your time, start looking around for a KNOWN pro to rebuild your motor.

????? Rebuild the motor for a blown head gasket on a motor with barely 3000 miles? Sorry, I don't understand where this comment comes from. I pulled the passenger side head off today and all is fine with the block and the head, just got a bad head gasket is all........I can have it fixed in no time as soon as I get the parts in I need........
Without naming names, I recently contacted 5 or 6 well-known and highly- regarded engine builders on these forums and, generally speaking, I will tell you that the going price for a short block is between $6.5K and $9K. Now for the most part, this includes a roller cam, girdle, and stroker kit. Time frames were 6 to 12 months.
Having said all that, I will gladly pay these amounts for these certain people to build me an engine. I would NEVER buy another Grooms engine.
Im sorry I didn't know a blown head gasket was the only problem you were having....but answer me this, WHY do you have a blown headgasket on a master that only has 3000 mi on a rebuild? I don't think that bodes well for you in terms of longevity and stability.....
Did you find out what the lifter noise was? my buddy had his motor built by grooms and he had a lifter tick less then 1500 mls sent that engine back at his expense and the 2nd new motor developed the same tick 1200 mls only this one was worst then the first one come to find out the cam wiped out a lobe and the crank was shotneedless to say his motor was rebuilt by a local well known to buicks so hopelly he will have better luck this time...
thats gotta suck. i hope you have more luck in the future. I know the value of doing it right the first time, but dam is it expensive lol. 5 grand for a shortblock? thats half the price i paid for my entire gn, and my cars nice too. I hope I can find a cheaper price lol.
He could have easily wiped a lobe at start-up and breakin.....Amsoil would be a definite NO-NO in an engine of mine, especially during cam break-in and first 600-700 miles.Ya know, I am developing this sentiment more and more each day. I have the car that Marc87GN built, using the Grooms engine. It has 3500 miles on it and I will be yanking it out for a rebuild. I have only ran the car 3 times at the track, prior to that I am not sure what he did with the car. It has only had AMSoil in it and it has completely wiped the cam lobes. Just frustrated as I would have thought the engine would have had better part than what it does for $4100.........
......... It has only had AMSoil in it and it has completely wiped the cam lobes. .........
