Me and my dad have plans to go to the track wednesday night. I told him I was going with my Buick, and now he says that his 68 Chevelle would make cake of my Buick. My buick has the mods like I said in my sig., + c-116 and a race chip w/ 26 degree timing + slicks. His Chevelle is a 427 manual that runs 13 flats and has never run any faster. He wants to put 50 bucks on the race and I agreed, but then he told me hes putting the 150 shot that we have in our basement on. I told him he could have it for 1 race since I get to crank boost up (its best 2/3). What should my car run with my mods, and is there any other little things I can do to squeeze a little more out of it. I know 50 isnt that much but being 18 and having your dad challenge you to a race, I cant lose. Anyone have any performance parts in the Md. Pa. area they want to sell;) or is anyone going to cecil county dragway wednesday night:biggrin:

I'm assuming a hot air?

Edit... I see you have an '87 motor with intercooler....

Your goose is cooked with him on the spray.

Edit: I still say your goose is cooked if you have never been to the track with yours or really worked on the tuneup.....

Not trying to discourage you... but a TE44 on an intercooled car with lots of tuning will run 11.50's fairly easy..... if you have never run your car at the track....you have too much to learn about driving and getting the most out of your car to be a serious threat to a 13 flat Chevelle on a 150 HP shot... if he installs the kit correctly....

If your car is intercooled... and he leaves the spray off... and you get some 26x8.5 slicks.... you have a chance...C16... you should be able to run a good bit higher boost... and easily go mid 12's with decent traction... first time to the track....but you need to have a handle on the tune.... and a scantool. With experience... you will get faster....

You need to find someone local that has one of these cars... and can help show you the way..... those old Chevelles can be beat.

Blazers right on the experience, i think you'd be close without him using the 150,, with the noz the edge goes quickly to him. it'd be about a car length or two with the noz, maybe a car length without the bottle, if you havent been to the track that much now if you let an experienced person drive it , it may be a different story. just my 2cents.

I have had it to the track before just to get the feel for it and i got to run it at least 12 times, and ran 13.4 w/ it, but it was on a set of terrible radials. This was before I had done most of the work to it, it had 36# inj bad vac leaks worn plugs and wires an oddball chip, and several other problems. I do have a scanmaster for it, and yes it is intercooled someone put a complete 87 drivetrain out of another car in it. I have done a little tuning to it with the scanmaster. But I do have a good feel for the car and have had some track experience with other cars. And he only get 1 race with spray, I figure, I can get him on the other 2 runs.

What type of tire is you dad going to be running? 150 shots don't scare me. And he has a stick too.... Leave with some nice boost and he will miss a gear chasing that buick!

What are your 60' times with slicks? What are you going to set your boost at?
I'll I can say is crank up the boost and do not let the O2's go below 740 and give it your best shot.
Also do you have airbags in the rear springs? If not that would be a good inexpensive mod to get those 60' times down.

He is running an MH racemaster and yes he has missed a gear before racing me. I havent ran the buick with slicks yet, my 60' with the radials was 2.1 leaving on 1psi or I would spin, so im hoping to get 1.75 at least out of it with slicks. Im cranking the boost up whatever my wastegate will let me 22-23. Also im gonna run open dump.

Leave at 8-10psi off the e-brake if your footbrake wont hold it. Id get a turbotweak chip if you can and get some race fuel in it to do testing before you get there. Start off around 15 psi tire pressure. You need the adjustabilty of the TT chip to really have a good chance against him on the N2O if he runs a perfect run. You want to go 11.5:1 a/f to maximize the power. Remove any weight you can before racing. Id keep at least 8 gallons of gas in the tank but no more than 10 gallons. He should out mph you easily if his car is up to par. You should be able to stab him off the line. Leave on the 2nd yellow. Not the green! Shoot for .740-.750 on the scanmaster.

And he only get 1 race with spray, I figure, I can get him on the other 2 runs.
I say let him run the spray every run, beat him 3x, and leave him feeling embarrassed:biggrin: . Forget about the $50. You have a great chance of winning if you launch like i said and your a/f is right on.

I have an extra Dutt necked stock intercooler that may be worth a couple tenths.

All I can say is good luck.

Heres the situation, U will find a lot of cars that have made a 12.50 pass or 13.0 but what is not often made clear is that was the best pass and really cant be backed up by consistent passes. My car is real funny like that--It will consistently run .3 slower than its best pass ever. I really think U should be negotiating cool down time between runs, because these cars will slow down bigtime in the heat. good luck and get ur $50.00 bucks ready!:D

Those cars in good tune are pretty evenly matched with the edge going to the Chevelle. I'm putting my money on experience in this race.

*I am assuming a lot in my statement as there is no info other than runs 13flat given on the 427.

Experience certainly plays a HUGE role when out on the track (and the nerves start setting in).

He "should" have enough car to take the chevelle, but.....

Heck, I have a similar setup in mine; TE44, MSD50's and mine runs 12.5's all day long on street radials (not stickies), and this on 93 octane pump gas (no alky).
One big difference though, I have a big V2 sitting out front. Don't know how much difference that would be

But if, and it's a big if, he can get some good tires/slicks, and launch hard with GOOD race gas, race chip, etc. He should be able to pull some low 12's.

Oughta be close none-the-less.

Oughta be close? Honestly I don't think his dad will need the Nitrous to beat him. As much as I love these cars and want to see them spank ANYTHING they line up next to REALITY has to set in at some point. His dad HAS RUN 13.0s in the Chevelle. He HAS NEVER RACED HIS CAR. He lists his mods and asks "What should it run?" I'm not picking on the fellow so don't take it that way. What I am saying is there is no replacement for EXPERIENCE in this case. He needs to be a good driver in a well tuned car to give a 13 'OH' car PLUS a 150 shot (~11.7 et) any kind of decent race AND he would need good traction. Honestly he should be happy that the ass whiping is coming from his Dad and some unknown punk that would try to take his girlfriend.

think about how bad his dad is gonna tree him

And last time I race him i treed him, he doesnt race his 4000lb. boat 4 speed manual car very much;)

Now thats good news. Tree him again. Hell red light him.:D If he does it right you won't beat him with a 12.
