GT61 Expectations

What can I expect out of this turbo with the following mods? POrted heads, 204-214 cam, 9.5" vigilante w/ a 3200-3400 stall, maf plus, 65 lb/hr inj., 3"thdp, and about 25-27lbs of boost. Just need some ballpark figures so I can better decide if I want to go to a bigger turbo. I would like to get a high 10 sec time slip out of her at about 130mph. If thats not realistic should I loiok at a bigger turbo such as a te45 or gtq70? All inputs are appreciated. I might even consider a different cam.

I'm in the same boat. I initially bought a used TE61.... but decided it wouldn't be enough... so I bought a used TE45A..... now I think the TE61... might be a better match for my stock longblock.... but will most definately fall short of the 130 mph trap speed you talk about..... The TE45A is definately enough turbo to get there with complementing parts.. ie heads... and cam...

I haven't installed either one yet....

Julio (Razor) talked me into pushing the stocker first... after I install his alky kit.... told me to not consider a bigger turbo until I went at least 7.50 in the 1/8. He also said the TE61 is a better match for the stock longblock. From what I have read though.... low to maybe mid 120's at the traps are probably the norm... for a well tuned 61.

I'd have to agree, I'm at what appears to be the limit of my TE64-1 at about 125mph(wont go over 25-26psi even with the wastegate shut).

If your goal is for 130mph I'd suggest maybe a GT6776S, 67GTQ, 70GTQ, or P trim 70, those are what I'm considering right now. I think any one of them should get you 130mph if the rest of the combo is there.

A good example would be Julio's car, 132mph with a P trim TE67.

130mph is low 10s. You only need about 122mph and a good 60' to get a high 10. Big difference between 130 and 120. My brother runs 10.2 @ 132.5 mph on a 70 gtq.
