I've been trying to decide between these 2 turbo's for my combination & would like to know other's thoughts as to which turbo makes the most power up to 25 lbs of boost?

I've heard that the 67 is slightly better...is this true & if so, at what boost level does the 45A catch up start to make more power than the 67?

Here's another thought.... I've also considered going to a gt70 P trim....How's it compare to the other two @ 20-25 lb's of boost?

I really like the GT67 & it's lower price, but if the 45A is right there in power up to 25 lb's of boost & has the capability of going even faster, then it may be worth it to go that route....but then there's that gt70 that might be better than both of them to help me reach my goal......geez......decisions, decisions.....

Well, if 25PSI is your magic stopping number, I guess the 67 would be fine. It will spool upp faster than the 45, or 70. But, like you said, the 67 will be finished there.

Just a little thing I noticed......My te61 at 30PSI went just as fast as my GT67 25PSI. When I raised boost up, and up to 31PSI with the GT67, I did not go faster.

This past month I have been trying out a T70 (Ball bearing Turbonetics) It spools way slower than the GT67, but it's not too bad for street. I bought it for big boost drag days. If you stomp on it from 5MPH, you will be deep into 2nd gear before the boost hits. A little pre-spool is needed for the rocket launch. The GT67 is pretty much instant.

Red Armstrong told me he and his wife Jane had lost about 75HP when he switched from his 45 to a GT67 on her car (dyno test). He likes the GT67, but not for the big boost glory runs.

The car will be street driven 95% of the time w/ 93 & alchy, so that's why I threw out that 25lbs./ of boost #..
I guess the bottom line is...Which turbo will be faster on the street and/or track at 20-25 lbs of boost?

Probably very little difference between the 45A and 67 in the boost range you're talking about. Maybe a slight edge to teh 67 closer to 20 psi, and the closer you get to 24 psi the 45A will start to make more power. Again, probably not enough to notice either way until you start to get into the high boost area of 25+.

Might want to consider as a street/strip compromise a smaller turbo like a 61 or 62 if you are mostly street. You can run into the 10s on 25 psi or less and alky. The 62 has a P-trim exhaust and should still spool fast with your convertor.

Hi

I am in the same situation as you!! Most people will tell you the Gt-67 an Te-45 are the same turbos!! If thats so then why is the 45 300 bucks more?? I am going witht he 45 cause its a proven turbo to go fast 25+ lbs.. My buddy had one on his car an updraded to a GTQ-70 an i think he wishes he kept the 45 cause it was a lot more street friendly.. Another thing is the GT technology seems not to give that good spooling whistle as the Te series turbos an in my opinion a good whistle is just as important as going fast.. As far as I know Limit Engineering is the only one that sells this turbo.. I', going with a 4" inlet ///3" outlet with a 85 exhaust, thinking my3200 man be too tight but will see if the RJC boost controller can take up some slack...!!!....

Call Red Armstrong at QuadAir if you go w/ a John Craig turbo. I too am really leaning towards the TE45A. I've talked with John Craig & Red Armstrong & both have told me to go w/ the 45. I also learned that Red will give you the best price!!! Call Red @ 440-235-3232. I think I'm ordering one later today...

I have owned the 45a and now have a 67. They are very different turbos. As stated above the 45a will make lots of power past 25 PSI unlike the 67 which from what im seeing starts signing off at that point. The 67 is much more stretable than the 45 tho and takes much less converter.

:)

Well, after reading through the archives & asking alot of questions to Red Armstrong & John Craig about the GT67 & the TE45A, I've decided to go w/ the TE45A w/ .63 precision housing... Ordered one today from Quad Air(Red Armstrong).
Everyone has pretty much said the same thing...These 2 turbo's are fairly close in performance under approx. 24-25 lbs. of boost, but after that the GT67 is pretty much done & the 45A just gets faster & faster... up to 30+ lbs of boost!!!...
The 45A is also big shaft turbo & has proved it's power & durability for many years. The last thing that convinced me to go with the 45A was the fact I just haven't heard or read any real downsides to it.

Thanks to all who gave advice...I appreciate it.

You won't be disappointed...excellent choice! Let us know how it turns out for you.

I've noticed anything from a 3200 to a 3800 stall. Just punch in te45A in the search & find a thread that relates to stall convertors & you'll find some helpful information...Also, just check other member's signatures w/ the 45A & they'll usually include what size stall they're using.
