Due to this turbo my tranny is toast, I am now trying to get it to spool on a stock d5 converter, so far i can get 2 psi. NOt bad for 2000 rpm i would think! What converter would be the absolute min to work with this you think? It would have to be lock up

I don't know, but I am watching your posts to see how ya like that turbo since I have a 224/224 solid. I think that is my next step. It sure seemed to spool fast enough in your video clip. It sounds pretty evil. I have an A/C 3500 9", and I am wondering how it would spool with a Grainger.

I think i can spool it even with a 3000 converter, but i put on the .68 housing, i the .81 is too big for a 231 motor especially for the street.

Norb, I see your having fun with your 71GTQ..hehe. I was wondering when you were going to post some results on that thing. Looks like the tranny didn't like your choice though..hehe. As for convertor, I think a 3000 is ample for that setup.

I wish i could give you some solid answers but the car ran 11.2@131 with no 2nd gear really. then i drove it home very carefully. I shifted at 5500, but the tranny didn't shift to 7000 rpm and hung there for about 1 second, so im not sure how much et/mph i lost. However i have a spare tranny in the car and stock converter and it seems to pull and spool very good after 30 mph. The turbo blanket is helping the spool i can feel the difference with and with out it.

Cool deal, glad the blanket helped you. Good luck on the tranny and let me know how that works out. I'm getting close to getting ready to re-vamp the GN, so I'm curious to other folks combos that are easily street driven but perform well at the track.

turbo blanket??were would you get it? does it really help? i have the same turbo on my car and all i can say good lord almightey!!!!please give some info on the turbo blanket!!!also how much boost were you running when you ran 131mph??

The blanket is a bit big around the oil drain, other than that its ok. I ran 25 psi, but you have to remember this car ran 133.5 mph with a lt70 p trim 4 bolt also, as of right now i don't see any improvement with the hp with this new turbo. But its unfair to say since the tranny is slipping quite a bit, there is no real rpm drop in any shifts. The blanket keeps the heat in the turbo, making it spool quicker, i just have seat of the pants feel on the difference, i would have to do a test before vs after blanket ad log the boost over rpm/time

Report on the tranny. The 2nd gear band is burnt, drum is warped, 3rd gear clutches toast. Maybe this explains my slipping. Need to get it back to the track soon.
