In my 2004 Monte Carlo I notice in the mornings when I drive the car after it has sat for awhile it sometimes has a hard 1-2 shift. After that it doesn't do it again until the next morning. Any idea what causes this? My fluid looks great and is at the right level. Computer says everything is fine as well (had it checked at the dealership).

Are you sure it`s only in the morning or when the car sit after 8-10hrs?. You can sometime see fimer shifts when the transmission fuild is cool (or below cold temperture). if you do alot of stop and go traffic, invest in a transcooler.

while you are at it, service the trance fuild and filter, it is recommend you add a Qt of LUCAS trans-slip.

 tip

Well when I said only in the morning I meant that if the car sits for awhile (since I sleep at night :) )
I don't do a lot of stop/go traffic.

All GM metric trannies shift harder when they are cold.
Just one of their characteristics

If it starts doing it when the trans is hot its likely slipping and the computer is jacking the line pressure up to max as a "limp home" mode. I had to have mine rebuilt and a 4T65E-HD is not a cheap tranny to rebuild, $1600 for a rebuild to 2004 specs with all the FSB's and such applied but no trick parts. THAT is why I have really decided never to buy a FWD car again unless its an emergency.
