harsh light throttle 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts\downshfts

At WOT, I manually shift this CR vb with a rachet shifter at 5800, shift is quick and firm. Shift points at light and medium throttle occur at correct mph. Pressures are correcrt. 3000 stall. Problem is light throttle 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts and downshifts are very harsh for street driving, would be ok for strickly strip. Its enough that I think its taking a toll on my ujoints and rear axles. Trans has about a 1000 miles on it now and works fine except for this. I’m tripped out about this being my first trans rebuild and it turned out so good by using Chris' book and parts. If I could soften these light throttle shifts, it would put it over the top.

I have Chris' 3rd gear separator plate and spring but have not put it in yet. The 1-2 accumulator has the red spring in it. Is there anything else I could do when I install the new plate that would soften these shifts at light throttle without losing the quick shifts at wot.

some boost the TV circuit with a TV spring at very light throttle. Might look at the TV spring. Bet its a real stiff spring.
 
thanks for the replay Lonnie, are we talking about the main throttle valve spring or the boost spring?


One other thing, light throttle shifts are acceptable when fliud is cold, but are the harshest when the fluid gets to 160-180
 
Jim, pressures are good according to the book at idle and 1500 and start increasing right off idle. Is there a specific rpm range or gear selection you are refering to?
 
thanks Chris, I'll install the 3rd gear separator plate kit and change to white spring in the 1\2 accumulator and see how those changes shake out before making any other changes.
